Jordan Peterson - Political Correctness and Postmodernism (Video)

Video Link

Peterson addresses the incongruity of Marxism and Postmodernism (but they are now somehow joined at the hip).

He discusses how the (specious) foundation of Marxism--compassion--is completely incompatible with the foundation of Postmodernism which is the will to power.

I have watched this video more than 3 times and each time I learn something new.

BTW, the subject of this video is right at the heart of what is happening to the Democratic Party right now.

That party has been assimilated by the Postmodernists in the colleges and universities. There is no center left.

Centrist Democrats will either vote GOP or stay at home.

Stalin found this out shortly after the Bolshevik Revolution. AAMOF, 6th Century MadMo found it out after learning of Christianity.

“will to power”

Absolute power is a necessary feature of applied utopianisms of any sort. Real-world people must be carved up and crushed to fit their utopian mold.

Dr. Peterson seems to reasoning his way to the Christian world view in which two competing powers are vying in this world. One of these powers, Satan, is driven by pride and envy to negate the one and absolute interpretation of right and wrong to wrest power and dominion in this plane of existence. Satan is employing his useful idiots, human agents who are driven by the same type of envy Satan suffers from, to create a world of moral relativism (the post-modernist theory of infinite interpretations of reality) where they can overturn established order to install themselves as the new power that all must bow to.

It boils down to pride and envy, imagine that...

Good video. A lot of Peterson’s views are based on Stephen Hick’s book “Explaining Postmodernism” — which is an excellent book. The post moderns don’t believe in TRUTH or privileging values and have adopted a relativist point of view. However, that can be seen as a educational tactic to scrape the capitalist values from students entering the university and then fill them with socialist values (which they do privilege). Relativism is just a sneaky tool for the purposes of indoctrination. Students become empty vessels to be filled with Marxist ideology.

I like Peterson and I met him once but didn’t have time to ask many questions. He makes the claim that consciousness has to be contained in a body, but I wonder if that is truth because Aristotle said God (consciousness) is “thought thinking thought” which doesn’t seem to need a body.

I agree with you.

If Peterson actually believes that consciousness is contained within the body, he needs to read/study the discussion of the subject in Julian Jaynes' The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind.

I don't think Jaynes ever says what he thinks consciousness is, but he tells us what it isn't and then pokes at it until something of a picture emerges.

That said, I really like Peterson's approach to understanding reality, behavior, and society.

He is always still in the laboratory...still open to the idea that he may be in error in some of his conclusions..still looking for new ways of thinking about things.

I particularly like he way he teaches. He is one of the few teachers who can think and speak at the same time and is not afraid to stop mid-sentence to follow a new thought.
