“Yep, I’ll pay $10 more for something, and my neighbors will have a job for the first time in over a decade.”

If you’d like to pay just a bit more in taxes every year, the government could give ALL of your neighbors jobs. Just a few percentage points more and the government could give them universal healthcare. Just a bit more and...etc.

Tariffs are nothing more than taxes on domestic consumption. If you want to nickel and dime society to pay for government selected social goods, you’re in the wrong party and on the wrong board.

Okay, here’s another “Conservative” on an open forum trashing tariffs.

Our Founding Fathers preferred them to straight taxation. They saw them as a limiting the size and scope of the federal government.

The United States is virtually a self sufficient economic unit. You are da*ded right I would be willing to pay more for a wide range of products to restore the destroyed cities of middle America such as Erie Pa or Rockford Il. Now as far as the welfare class from Chicago that have poured into places like Kankakee or Rockford I would be more than happy to force them back to Cook County and dramatically reduce or eliminate their gimmedat regime.
