About 25 Yosemite firefighters have surrounded Merced Grove whose immense trees tower more than 200 feet tall and date back 1,000 years with fire hoses. They spent Thursday cutting fire lines by hand around the famous site, hoping to slow the blaze and reduce its intensity if it enters the venerable forest depicted on thousands of postcards and tourist photographs.

Isn’t the picture of the car driving thru the tree actually at Big Trees State park near Arnold Ca? It fell down last year. I used to go there all the time as I lived about 30 minutes away. the only thing that kept me from going more is the fees to get in and gas $$$.
