"Supporters of the bill have said it would boost the economy by getting rid of tariffs set up to protect industries that no longer exist in the United States."

Protect industries in China from any possible competition in specific markets, that's the reality.

It's impossible to say what sort of industries "will no longer exist" in the US when Chinese and other countries can't dump product here.

First they want to dictate the number of troops deployed where to keep Trump from making deals and now they want to take away tariffs he could possibly use when making a trade deal with China.

Sounds like a CYA move for the mid-terms so RINOs can talk out of both sides of their mouths being for or against Trump depending on which interest group they're bending over for at the moment.

I agree. And it baffles me why some FReepers take him to task for not following through, when the (R)s in Congress join the other side against him.

Something as simple as defunding Planned Parenthood, and they can’t even help him to save the lives of those kids, or at least end our taxes paying for the genocide.

Well, sometimes he gives his opinion. But I really cannot fathom how our own Republicans work against him. Maybe if conservatives would flood Congress with calls for a change. I am speaking to myself as well and am going to start making some calls now.

What angers me, is that this will be a LAW, and can’t be undone, except by another law. Fat chance! Trump can refuse to sign it, but that would only be a gesture, since they all voted for it. Deliberately going against the prez, AND making him look weak to China. A twofer! I’m surprised they didn’t throw NAFTA in there, to make it a triple! Backstabbing jerks! They’re getting rich from this kind of crap, and that, plus sticking it to Trump, is all they care about.
We can change things in congress, if we continue to elect conservatives. It’ll take a few cycles, but it can be done. Keep voting Republican, while continuing to primary these Rinos out of existence.

If companies moved production overseas despite a tariff on bringing manufactured goods back to the U.S., then all they were doing is taking advantage of lower-cost labor. Do people here actually think we have the labor force to make, domestically, all of the products we currently consume. Impossible.

Meanwhile, we’re essentially taxing our own citizens to buy products we want to consume. This is a tax cut bill, pure and simple, something most conservatives normally support.

And it has the advantage of giving President Trump an inducement in his dealings with the Chinese, provided he dangles it in front of them and threatens not to sign it. After all, it will benefit the Chinese also since free trade works for both parties in the end. It’s not the zero sum game so many people seem to assume that it is.

That said, there is a case to be made for those 145 companies, but odds are many of them either have a competitive advantage that will survive removal of the tariff, or should be making something else entirely.

“In all my 67 years, I have never seen a party join the opposition party as one to go against the interests of the United States.”

Well, for many of your 67 years the U.S. Congress wasnt wholly owned by corporate AND foreign interests. When you make a person wealthy beyond their wildest imagination, they will do what you want them to do. I wonder what the over/under is how many Congress corruptos are sold out to China or companies that want to manufacture at slave labor wages there? 400? 500?

I’d like to see an audit of every member of the House and Senate.

I want to know what their assets were when they entered those bodies, and what it is today.

Could their salaries have reasonably accounted for the increase?

I’d like to know.

You need to do some reading. Congress has this power, but they have ceded it to the President, under the Trading With Enemies Act (1917?). He also has emergency powers to enact tariffs against the enemies of the United States under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977. Of course, the Progs never thought these powers would be used by a Republican President to stop their globalist schemes to destroy America.

They don't have the authority to give their power away. They can act or not act, but they can't legally violate Constitution separation of powers.

And, if you admit that Congress has the power here then your complaint that this challenges POTUS authority is invalid. All this bill does is claw back their rightful authority.

So true, we’d all love to know. We’d love to know how the Clintons became so wealthy after leaving the White House “broke” (according to them). Well, we kind of do, but what we know has to be just the tip of the iceberg.

We see the smoke the smoke and the results (their lavish dacha lifestyle...but wouldn’t it be nice to see who gave them what? Bribery is still a crime, I think. And these people are investigating Trump’s tweets for crimes...

The criticism of Trump that I find most ignorant is when they take him to task for the wall not being built yet.

Only the Congress can allocate money to build a wall. Trump is constitutionally prohibited from building a wall until Congress approves it. Of course one would think that with the Republicans supposedly in control of Congress, that a wall would be funded by now. The blame is 100% on Congress for this.

Nobody pays $250k to $500k for a one hour speaking engagement.

That’s not unless they are making a form of a payoff.

It would be interesting to know who reimbursed those funds.

Who were they passing money for?

I know, and it’s painful to have to tell folks on your own side (if that’s really the case, and now you have to wonder about that too), what the score is.

I may be wrong, but it seems to me the NeverTrumpers are becoming bolder on the forum of late, and are now trying to sew seeds of doubt about Trump at every opportunity.

Well he promised...

He hasn’t followed through...

It’s as if he hadn’t done one thing since he got elected.

He’s been working his ass off for us.

I’ve never seen a president try harder. He’s going go gangbusters, that I’m worried about his health.

If we lose him, the Republic is done.

Has Trump vetoed anything yet?

Trump veto’s and makes the RINO’s put their names out there when they vote to override the veto.

They did this because they think that Trump won’t rock the boat so close to the November elections and their US-scratch that Globalist Chamber of Commerce paid their damned money to buy these clowns and they expect a return for their bribe money, the American citizenry be damned!
