“The last Time I Saw Paris” was one of my Mom’s favorite songs.

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

JEROME KERN

”THE LAST TIME I SAW PARIS”

In the 1970s, Jo Stafford and her husband, bandleader and arranger Paul Weston, took to the studio to record an act that they had been performing at their friends’ parties for years. Jo sang out of tune and Paul played piano and arranged poorly, creating a hilarious comedy act. Their version of the Bee Gees’ “Stayin’ Alive” is absolutely sidesplitting; I had tears rolling down my eyes when I heard Dr. Demento play it on his show years ago. Jerome would have probably fallen over laughing at what they did to his song.

Good evening, Luv, and thanks for the military humor tune. ((HUGS))

No matter how many times I watch it, I MUST watch it all the way to the end. I just love seeing our troops having such a good time, and with those who respect them!!

She did.

She also had a really nice voice, and was always singing around the house. I knew most of the “American Song Book” Songs from her, long before I became a professional musician.

Oh, my goodness! I’d LOVE to see that actual act as it was sung instead of a still. But it’s still funny...and SOOOO off-key! :)

OK...I looked up “Stayin’ Alive”.

I am willing to bet that, in the absence of autotune, many modern vocalists sound just like that! :-)

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

JEROME KERN

”THE LAST TIME I SAW PARIS”

Hampson’s work in Germany in Bach cantatas, opera and lieder paved the way for his return to America where he chose a different path. In addition to his work with Jay Unger on Stephen Foster tunes, he tackled the Great American Songbook. This is an exceptional take on the song.
