Ron DeSantis opens lead in governor's race, poll finds
Orlando Sentinel ^ | July 27, 2018 | OS reporter

On the Republican side, U.S. Rep. DeSantis, at 41 percent, has a 12-point lead over Agriculture Secretary Adam Putnam at 29 percent. Two percent favor Stuart physical therapist Bruce Nathan, and 28 percent are undecided, the poll found.

Once considered the underdog, DeSantis has surged of late, in part by picking up the endorsement of President Donald Trump, who plans to campaign for the congressman Tuesday in Tampa.

“It is likely that [Trump’s] endorsement of DeSantis is the driving factor behind the shift in the race,’’ the poll says.

FAKE NEWS keeps telling us the story that the Republicans are going to be big losers in the 2018 mid term election because of Trump.

There is a reason Trump calls the media FAKE NEWS.

Trump's endorsements changed DeSantis from being 17 points under Putnam to 12 points over Putnam in less than a month.

And we have yet to see the impact of the upcoming Trump rally for DeSantis on July 31.

RINO's and NEVER-TRUMPERS beware.

Trump’s endorsement carries weight.

It’s hard to believe that in 2016, most GOP candidates were afraid of Trump’s endorsement, believing it to be the kiss of death.

I don’t reside in Florida nor know much about any of these two, but I thought Putnam was the good guy? He’s the one Hogg and crew keep harassing anyway.

I have been watching Putnam TV ads all over TV for months
and seeing no DeSantis ads. Ron just started ads focused on his military background the last two weeks.

So I feel people didn’t even know he was in the race until Trump endorsed him.

Only way the people all over Florida know Ron is because he is all over the FOX TV shows. I seen him on Dobbs, Hannity, Ingraham, and Fox and Friends, many times.
Trump used the media like this and ran fewer commercials
that Clinton and got lots of free exposure.

Putnam is a career politician fully endorsed by the GOP Establishment.

Adam Putnam
Born: Jul 31, 1974
Florida House November 5, 1996 – November 7, 2000
US House January 3, 2001 – January 3, 2011
Florida’s Commissioner of Agriculture, elected in 2010

Adam Putnam is the Agriculture Commissioner running for Governor. His agency (Agriculture) is responsible for the Conceal Carry permitting in Florida, and there was and issue with CC applications earlier this year, hence the Hogg attack. Putnam’s office found the issue and corrected it. however, he is looked at as the “establishment” candidate vs. DeSantis who is more like Trump, along with other qualities. I think they both have qualities and negatives and I think they would both be good for the State, though I lean towards Putnam in that regard, and lean towards DeSantis in his being a strong supporter of the Trump agenda. Looks like DeSantis is taking the lead now as people still are anti-establishment and want support for the President.

Putnam is a Bushpublican who voted for TARP and Cash For Clunkers among other BS legislation.

He faced quite a backlash from voters and saw the writing on the wall and did not run for re-election.

He then waited for people to forget and ran for Ag Commish to rebuild his political career.

He is now running ads that disparage and misrepresent DeSantis. These ads are running on TV, radio and FB at a 4 to 1 ratio versus ads about why we should vote for Putnam. 12% behind in polls shows these ads to be major flop-sweat.

I noticed that Republicans are starting to stand with Trump instead of running away from him. The folks running in Arizona seem to be crawling all over each other in their haste to identify with him.

Kelli Ward finally has ads out as we get closer to the primary. McSally has been advertising like crazy.

I couldn’t even tell you who’s running on the other side. Their chatter doesn’t register with me.

Putnam is ok; DeSantis is likely better. Putnam is more mainstream Republican, which right now is not what Trump voters want.

Either is head and shoulders above anything the other party has.

Putnam is a ¡Yeb! clone. He built up a large warchest through funding from the usual suspects, especially *Big Sugar and Cattle. He was Ag commissioner and made lots of friends. Dude hqs a whole county named after his family.

He’s been running extremely misleading negative ads against Ron. Latest pro-Adam ads state he stands with Trump on illegal immigration. Also misleading. He does NOT support e-verify. See * above.

We’re onto him. He’s toast.

(In before the Tallahassee buffoon says he can’t beat Graham. Complete false bs fakery. Ron will eat her for breakfast.)

Putnam’s staff issued hundreds of Concealed Carry Permits to those who should not have them, because his staff stop checking the required databases on all applicants for over a year.

It was an agency outside of Putnam’s Agriculture Commissioner office that uncovered the negligence.

Putnam’s a RINO and presided over the dept of agriculture as it failed to do background checks for CCP’s because “the program stopped working”. He has commercials running where a Sheriff tells everyone that Putnam will deport illegals “who commit crimes”. LOL. He’s not what we need.

Putnam is ok flooding Florida with all the other illegal aliens that have ‘not committed crimes’. In other words Putnam is fully in favor of having the Florida taxpayers pay for the education of illegal alien kids and hand out free welfare and medical.

Putnam had the opportunity to advocate at the Florida Legislature for an E-Verify bill while he was Agriculture Commissioner and failed to do so. Instead he advocated against E-Verify.

Nobody is undecided these days and certainly not to the degree this newspaper poll suggests. My bet is that this is the best spin the paper could put on this poll because the numbers are so much better than they are letting on.They tried to tell us that the race was close in georgia for governor primary runoff. As it turned out it was a BLOWOUT.My bet is that will be the case in florida as well.

I've been a Adam Putnam person since this race started - and still feel Putnam has an important part to play in our party's future... BUT if Trump wants Ron DeSantis then I'm voting DeSantis.
