Jordan: If Rosenstein doesn’t deliver, Meadows and I will force impeachment vote
The Hill ^ | 07/29/18 | Jacqueline Thomsen

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said on Sunday that if the Department of Justice (DOJ) doesn’t hand over documents that Congress has requested, he and other lawmakers will force a vote on the impeachment of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

“If they don’t give us the information that we, as a separate and equal branch of government are entitled to have in order to get answers for the American people, then we will actually call to vote for the impeachment of Rod Rosenstein,” Jordan told radio host John Catsimatidis in an interview on AM 970 in New York.

Jordan and Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), leaders in the House Freedom Caucus, led a group of conservative lawmakers in filing articles of impeachment against Rosenstein on Wednesday.

Meadows backed off on that effort one day later following a series of talks with GOP leaders, who largely oppose Rosenstein’s impeachment.

Jordan on Sunday claimed that lawmakers “have caught the Department of Justice trying to hide information from us, redacting stuff in documents that they should not have redacted.”

“The House has a constitutional duty to do oversight if the executive branch isn’t going to do that,” the conservative lawmaker said. “People should be held in contempt, people should be impeached.”

“That’s why if they don’t give us the information, Mr. Meadows and myself and others are going to force an impeachment vote at some point,” Jordan said.

I like Jim Jordan. He’s honestly trying. But Rosenstein isn’t going to be impeached. The votes aren’t there. In fact the vote won’t even be close. THEN the dems will claim the vote as evidence that the House supports the work of Mueller.

There's talkers and there's doers. Long passed time for Congressmen to shut up and start doing!

No matter what, Jordan is showing the American People that the FBI has made themselves "untouchable".....particularly in this case.

Remember the "supposed" bomber who was raided over a bag near a flagpole...the anthrax scenario...the rancher cases.

Impeachment? How about the protocols of a contempt charge, taken to a federal court and forced. If Rosenstein refuses he is jailed on a felony. FELONS lose clearances for cause, and in Rosenstein’s case a clearance is a condition of employment. Rosenstein is then efficiently removed from the bureau.

A much cleaner method receiving the same outcome without the quagmire of impeachment proceedings. Cheaper too.

I think he's serious about forcing the vote and certainly could force the vote but it isn't going to pass. Not before the election and probably not after.

THEN the dems will claim the vote as evidence that the House supports the work of Mueller.

Or use it as evidence that Republicans want to block finding the truth. Either way it's a campaign issue.

Even if he is impeached, why would the law enforcement branch listen?

Yes, we have a non constitutional branch of government now. They are above all the rest because they have the force.

Mr. Jordan needs to deliver on this, because if he doesn’t he is just another Paul Ryan (policy wonk miscast into a leadership role) or Trey Gowdy (huff and puff big government republican who does not deliver, since he could not convince Hillary or James Comey or Peter Strok to accept a plea bargain.)

Foolish LARPing.

The Senate is strongly anti-MAGA. The House is about evenly split.

Congress is much more likely to give Rosenstein a medal than it is to impeach him or anybody else.

Mr. Jordan needs to deliver on this

Deliver what?

With 350-400 "no" votes in the House, and a Senate that would remove Trump in a heartbeat if given an excuse, what do you want Jordan to do?

If impeached, there would be a “trial” with the house as prosecutors. This would all take a lot of time. The process could well take them past midterms which, if we win would put more senators in our field. In the meantime it shows the people that we’re doing something. And, if removed, we could get someone who would pull Meulers teeth as a bonus.

Even if he is impeached, why would the law enforcement branch listen?

At that point, the Democrats will go judge shopping, and get some liberal judge to issue an injunction blocking the removal of Rosenstein.
