Washington (CNN) - President Donald Trump threatened to push the government into shutdown ahead of the coming appropriations deadline in September if Congress does not fund his border wall and change the nation's immigration laws.

"I would be willing to 'shut down' government if the Democrats do not give us the votes for Border Security, which includes the Wall! Must get rid of Lottery, Catch & Release etc. and finally go to system of Immigration based on MERIT! We need great people coming into our Country!" Trump tweeted Sunday.

Trump has previously floated the possibility of a government shutdown over border security and immigration, and on Sunday he made his threat explicit, saying he would do so unless Congress funds his proposed wall, which he promised Mexico would pay for, and puts in place his preferred immigration policies.

He said he wouldn’t do it again-the last budget. We’ll see. His enemies should know better than to test him again. We’ll see.

Wow Djt threatens to shut govt down 1 month before the election if he doesn’t get funding for wall and other immigration necessities. Cajones of solid brass !
Mitch will soil himself as will Ryan & Republican leadership, whereas 90% of Republicans and 45% of the nation would applaud a shut down.

Gutsy, risky, but a yuuuuge winner if combined with the proper use of the bully pulpit, which DjT has already committed to do on the campaign trail. I love this.

Not a single Democrat would have to vote for this, if his own party would get it’s act together.

Instead Ryan lets a piece of garbage legislation make it to the docket, that aids the asylum seekers and illegal aliens.

The treachery of this act alone, should forever be hung around Ryan’s neck, and it appear on his headstone when the day comes.

A quote from Jonathan Swift: “When a true genius appears in the world, you may know him by this sign, that the dunces are all in confederacy against him.” Reminds me of President Donald Trump.

This will be a collision between Mitch and DjT ...a move that DjT knows must be made to settle this crap once and for all. To the death. Is there any question who will blink ? No. It will require vocal support from us to convince leadership.

The problem on our side is the donor class insists that the southern border must remain open. Since most of the pubbie voters doesn’t want that at all the dirty deeds are done in closed committees and voice votes to keep the real agenda on the QT as much as possible.

The citizens will not get favorable legislation until they replace the Bush League Republicans with patriots that side with them and the rule of law.
Amnesty and surrender of the country is the only solution that Bush League Republicans find acceptable.
They will not vote for a wall or deportations.

Then we need to do something about contributions.

Our nation shouldn’t be exposed to laws imposed that would end it’s existence, or even harm it, simply to help a traitor get elected.

It would take something like that to overturn his veto.

It would take only the majority of vote to pass good law, if the Republicans would pull their heads out long enough to do it.

A veritable political genius to save this for 2 months before the mid-term election.

The most genius element being to force Republicans to sh!t or get off the pot. To show their true colors. They must hate him for it.

Seething hatred.

I’m beginning to think that way too. Let’s put all the chips on the table and let the people decide.

“They will not vote for a wall or deportations.”

We will know them by their acts.

They either get with the program of their electorate, or they lose to the democrat.

Folks are tired of their shit. And it will be on display 7x24 because of this patriot President.

Can you imagine a set of circumstances where you would vote for a Republican for Congress...that did not support POTUS AND the Wall in a shutdown scenario?

I cannot.

As a side note to this thread, please consider the following.

When the states wise up and repeal the ill-conceived 17th Amendment, the states need to include a provision in the recall amendment giving themselves the power to recall federal lawmakers, ordinary voters having the power to recall bad-apple representatives, state legislatures having the power to recall corrupt senators.

After all, why should patriots, including a great president like Trump, have no constitutional option other than being involuntary servants to the unconstitutionally big federal government in violation of the 13th Amendment between elections, being oppressed under the thumbs of activist judges for example, simply because the Founding States overlooked putting recall provisions in the Constitution?

13th Amendment:
Section 1: Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

Section 2: Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

And speaking of involuntary servitude, the 16th Amendment (16A) needs to disappear with the 17th Amendment, 16A also contributing to involuntary servitude to the feds imo.

Exactly. Better to force Congress before the election than to wait for reinforcements after the election.
