A Man of God Sins Against My Father
Townhall ^ | 07/28/2018 | Michael Reagan

Posted on 07/29/2018 12:38:42 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

If a liberal like Jesse Jackson went on CNN and accused my father of being a "known womanizer" like President Trump, conservatives across America would go off the rails.

They'd defend the reputation of Ronald Reagan to the max and blast Jackson for his false and evil equivalency.

They'd point out that it is totally outrageous to compare the personal lives of President Trump and my father.

Yet look what happened last week when a prominent conservative evangelical pastor from Dallas went on Fox News and called my father a "known womanizer."

The Rev. Robert Jeffress, who's a Fox contributor, was asked by Ed Henry to respond to another minister who had accused Republican lawmakers of selling their good Christian souls by supporting a serial bed-hopper like Trump.

"You know," Jeffress responded, "this is not an unusual thing - we've been here before. Back in 1980, evangelicals chose to support a twice-married Hollywood actor who was a known womanizer in Hollywood. His name was Ronald Reagan. ...

"The reason we supported President Reagan was not because we were supporting womanizing or divorce. We supported his policies."

When I heard Jeffress say that I blew my top and started angrily tweeting.

The first tweet I fired off to the Southern Baptist minister was pretty blunt - "All I can say is go F yourself."

My second tweet was "Dr. Jeffress. How dare you compare my father to Trump."

Apparently, I was the only conservative Reagan Republican in North America who actually cared that Pastor Jeffress was casually throwing my father under the bus to support his beloved sinner-in-chief.

All I heard from my fellow conservatives in the twittersphere was crickets -and a week later I still do.

What that holy man from Dallas said was absolutely outrageous.

He equated my father - who was divorced from my mother Jane Wyman when he was dating in Hollywood and not yet married to Nancy - to Donald Trump, who was dating Playboy playmates and who knows who else when he was married.

What was more outrageous, however, was that no conservative Republicans or Fox commentators rose up in defense of my father and his reputation.

As I also pointed out in a tweet last week, all those conservative talk show hosts and politicians who keep saying how much they love Ronald Reagan are either lying or have lost their spines and a pair of other things.

I don't believe those so-called "Reagan conservatives" anymore.

If they wouldn't stand up and defend my father against a vile and uninformed statement from someone like Jeffress', there's no reason to assume they love my father at all.

I don't care what the president of the United States does in his personal life. I care what he does as president of the United States.

If you want to defend Trump, fine.

But for God's sake, why would you use my father to make excuses for a president who has cheated on every woman he's been married to?

To rephrase that famous old line, Rev. Jeffress, "I knew Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan was a friend of mine. And Donald Trump ain't no Ronald Reagan - and vice versa."

While I agree, Jeffries’ use of RR, was off-base, Michael Reagan, whom I’ve agreed with about many things in the past, is just using this faux pas, as an excuse to bash Trump. If he had just criticized Jeffries for making a spurious remark about his father, fine. But he, instead, used it as an opportunity to denigrate Trump, which he unfortunately, is all too happy to do.

Message to Michael Reagan: “Lighten up, Francis”.

Lighten up? Why should Michael Reagan tolerate that slander?

I will always cherish your father Michael but you lose me when you start bashing my current president. The folks who love your father also love President Trump so how do you expect support by bashing the man behind MAGA.

FDR, Ike, JFK, Clinton, Obama (widely said to have a child with a woman living in the Bahama’s,covered up like all Obama’s past)

I don’t care and certainly Dems don’t care even if your a rapist, going with hookers of all colors.

Jeffress likes Trump because unlike all his predecessors Trump has made Religious rights and freedoms a priority for Christian Pastors.

Doing good and being good are two mutually exclusive unrelated things.

Remember evil likes good men that sit back and do nothing
and let evil exist and prevail.

Besides look at Trump’s kids, they speak volumes about his Fatherhood. Look at the kids of some of those other Pols who ran or served as POTUS. Next to them Trump looks good.

Trump gave more to charity and his children like Eric devote lot of time and money to charity.

Clinton took IRS deduction on old underwear, and stole money from suffering Haitians.

RR was a truly great pres-but he was not a saint-my mom was the biggest RR fan ever-she told me she’d been gaga over him since he was an actor, and she was always talking about him when he was governor of Cali. She’d also kept up with all the gossip about her hero, too-when he became pres, she said she was so glad he was done screwing around when he got to the WH, unlike JFK and LBJ. It is supposedly common knowledge that he had many affairs with actresses as a married man, and that he was a married man when he began an affair with Nancy and she was his mistress until he was divorced.

Big f’ing deal-it was Hollywood-and the same and worse still goes on there today.

It was Bill Clinton who brought womanizing back to the WH after quite a few years without it-at least Pres Trump isn’t showing any inclination to follow Clinton’s example...

In his autobio “Where's the Rest of Me” Ronald Reagan recalls that after Jane Wyman dumped him as a career move he started to uh, rather vigorously play the field. One Sunday morning he woke up with a comely new found friend and he realized he hadn't gotten her name before they moved on to other things. At that point he had a little revelation. Better tune it down he thought. This isn't good. Jeffress may be remembering reading this .

"Apparently there are 3 books out..."

Fake news and slander against Conservatives is not new.

Back then, it was monolithic, and there was virtually no balanced media to refute it.

Exactly, Jefferies was out of line. I don’t blame Mr. Reagan for jumping to his dad’s defense, but he poor job of doing it.

“Lighten up? Why should Michael Reagan tolerate that slander?”

Did what Jefferies say mandate that Michael Reagan could freely slander Trump, if we want to get in to what is right and proper?

Reagan is using malicious accusations as if they are confirmed facts.

Plenty of good men are known “womanizers”.. and plenty of manipulative women are all to eager to play along with their game.

I imagine plenty of democrats say the same about Bill Clinton.

I’m a huge Trump supporter, but his past behavior with women is shameful. As I said above, Michael is going overboard about this, to bash Trump, because he’s a NeverTrumper. But equating a womanizer with great men, is bunk. Cheating on one’s wife, is not one’s finest hour, and excusing it, as if it were no big deal, because the adulterer is a “great man”, is bogus. Trump is doing great things, but I certainly hope his adultery is behind him.
I may be wrong, but I’m guessing you do not give Bill Clinton, JFK, FDR, MLK or any other democrat who accomplished some good, the moniker “good men”. The difference is, they were adulterous WHILE doing whatever good deeds they did, and the press, as well as many voters, looked the other way.
I truly hope that President Trump, does not relapse. He is said to have become a Christian, since being elected. Using that as a starting point, I can now call him a good man, and so far, he has proved to be one.
