That’s good for picking a more conservative candidate, but it doesn’t help in the general. Open primaries given each party a chance to pick a candidate with a better chance of winning in November. So I understand why a roughly balanced state like AZ (Trump by 3.5%) has open primaries. Why SC (Trump by 14%) has open primaries is a different question.

Open primaries serve only to give Democrats the opportunity to select Republican nominees. That must end.
