Excellent job of squelching the taxation despots.
the amount of money the IRS wanted me to pay based on their calculation wasn’t all that much in relative terms.
I informed this new revenue agent (under one year. Hey, I asked and he answered) that I needed to know the specific statute passed by Congress that required me to pay income taxes based on my situation. Not the IRS code or manual, but the actual statute.
I also told him such a statute doesn’t exist and that in a number of cases people who have been taken to tax court or prosecuted have demanded that the prosecution produce the statute requiring them to pay income taxes and then they would be willing to pay what was owed.
In every such case, the U.S. Attorneys have failed to do so; some even asking the judge to take judicial notice that such a law exists and disallow the question.
I continued on with this new IRS agent that if I was actually required to pay income taxes, why were they asking me to sign a contract to pay money I didn’t owe.
The last thing I told the IRS agent was that I knew he had a quota to collect a certain amount in revenue, I would not be worth the effort, and his time would be better spent on just about every other case.
