An appeals court on Monday rejected Paul Manaforts request to end his pre-trial detention ahead of the former Trump campaign chairman's second trial in Washington, D.C.
A federal judge had ordered Manafort to jail last month after special counsel Robert Mueller alleged that Manafort had engaged in witness tampering, in violation of his house arrest.
An appellate court Washington, D.C. upheld the judge's order, which said that Manafort "was unlikely to abide by any conditions the District Court might impose, including the 'most fundamental condition of release . . . that he not commit [additional] crime[s] during the period of release.
Mueller alleged that Manafort attempted to convince two potential witnesses to lie to investigators about his past lobbying work for Russia-linked former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. Prosecutors argued that Manafort could continue to engage in illegal activity if he was not jailed.
The ruling on Manafort's pre-trial detention arrived the same day as he goes to trial in Virginia on bank and tax fraud charges.
Manafort is set to appear in court in D.C. in September on another series of charges, including obstructing justice, conspiracy to obstruct justice and illegal foreign lobbying.
Manafort has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Sounds like a case of judicial bias.
If he did try to tamper with witnesses while awaiting trial that’s a very serious chargr.
While Hillary walks free.
Of course Mueller is engaging in witness tampering by his malicious prosecution of Manafort, but that’s OK because shut up.
Hillary doesn’t tamper with witnesses. She silences them.
Unreported income on tax returns. That’s IT. Yet he is treated like Larry Nassar. Just because Herr Mueller says so. Incredible.
To give him a little more time on The Rack ?
This is based on a couple of emails to associates who will be witnesses. The criteria make it sound like he’s a mafioso who will order hits on people. Keep in mind he hasn’t been convicted of any of these so called crimes that he is supposedly likely to keep committing.
This is the kind of prosecutorial overkill that might eventually lead to his convictions being reversed on appeal.
Where is the IRS ???
If they plan to use any of Manafort’s testimony or comments against Trump, they’ll have a hard time ‘splainin’ why we should trust a liar, cheat, and witness tamperer.
Naturally the media are trying to make it look like Trump’s is the only campaign Manafort ever worked for, and like he wasn’t fired after a short time. (By the way, check out his Wikipedia article. His portrait is his mug shot.)
This trial is an investigation into all of Manafort’s questionable activities over many years, going back to long before he even knew Donald Trump. But, have you noticed how the liberal media always refer to it as the “first Russia probe trial” . . . tying to implicate President Trump, of course.
” If”
Big question
If Manafort was trying to continue his consultation work then Mueller could spin any contact with his partners as “ witness tampering”
Plus Mueeler had SECRET WITNESS lists
This is Mueller shutting down this man’s business completely
Manafort offered $10 million in property for bond
But the judge was convinced he’s a flight risk?
Stinks to watch an inquisition
If Manafort was trying to engage in business deals with prosecution witnesses during an ongoing criminal prosecutition of him then he’s an idiot.
It's sort of like a guy on trial for murder who buys two tickets for the Super Bowl next year.
LOL.
Yes, jail Hillary and the Clintonistas in solitary so that they cannot commit additional crimes till their trials are complete.
Yeah since his entire busness network was criminalized by Mueller maybe without notification to him
D’ oh!
It’s harder to apply thumb screws for a coerced “testimony” if Manafort isn’t in detention.
Is this the USA or Venezuela? The fix is in against Manafort in the scum bags attempt to get Trump. Talk about a kangaroo trial, when the hell are we going to see equal justice under the law?
