In Colorado, any employer can fire an employee for marijuana use, assuming that is against company policy.
To: Kaslin
Federal workers also include anyone who has a federal contracts. Have run into this issue, with medical marijuana workers losing their jobs because the company had federal contracts.

Perhaps less surly, but also less efficient, if that is possible.

There’s not a single square foot of the 50 states or the District of Columbia where it’s legal.

Is it actually a federal crime to consume marijuana. I know produce and sell but solely consume?
To: Pearls Before Swine
Hey, you talk like less efficient federal bureaucrats is a BAD thing...
To: Boogieman
I guess DMV employees are state level, so its ok for them. They could speed up a bit, IMHO.

It is complicated, but when has congress legislated anything complex, except the tax code. This will likely be a blanket pass for all federal employees. Do you really want federal armed agents to be legally high? How does a DEA officer that uses MJ testify against a drug dealer? If an FBI agent shoots a criminal while using, can he prosecuted for recklessness? How about an AMTRAK engineer? Federal employees (not just law enforcement agents) make decisions every day that affects ordinary citizens lives, property, employment. health care, etc. Do we want people making these decisions when they are impaired?

Should air traffic controllers or IRS agents be allowed to toke up during a shift because they live in kalifornia?
Any employer can make and enforce rules about employees using drugs on and off duty. They can test for them and make positive test results a cause for termination.
This applies to any type of drugs including some prescriptions drugs.
Druggies are not a protected class of employees under anti discrimination laws.

LOL! How true. But at that level, testing is not done, while at the peon level all can be routinely tested.
