I'd like to see this go nationwide. I'd also like to see anything with more than 3 axles have to stay in the slow lane on hills.

Sure,,,make enough laws...that no one knows the laws.

And you can be pulled over for anything....

Ayn Rand....come to mind.

Tennessee has something like that.
But I always run into situations like this...

I’m in the fast lane and going 2 miles faster than the speed limit.
I’m slowly gaining on the cars on the right, enough that I don’t want to change lines and get behind them.
But there are 4 cars that want to do 10 miles faster than the speed limit lining up behind me.

Am I wrong?

I would say ever since around 2012, there have been many times I would have to ignore the top speed limit, and go faster, just to move along with the dominant flow.

There are times where even in the far right lane, aka, the Slow Lane, the stream is rushing down the freeway at 70 mph.
What can you do, unless your car is disabled, you have to move. It’s like RAWHIDE....Keep them doggies movin!

I do most of my driving on a two lane state highway in a rural area - holding up more than six cars will get you a ticket and there are pullouts every so often.

Jersey already has a “left lane is for passing only” law - but it’s never enforced - hope Idaho’s police are more diligent than ours......

Nothing is more idiotic and more of a danger to traffic flow and safety than these rude jackasses that park in the left lane at the speed limit or so.
And after the sheer joy of driving on the autobahn, it makes you truly hate those idiots back here poking along in the fast lane.

Over there the supreme sin is passing on the right, and refusing to move right for faster traffic approaching from behind.
You move right with confidence because nobody will ever be in your blind spot on the right.

I say do not ticket the slow drivers in the fast lane. I prefer making them exit their car, lighting it on fire, and slapping their face with gloves (like before a duel), and confiscating their license.

“That law now allows drivers to go 15 mph over the speed limit to safely pass a vehicle going below the speed limit.”

Now that’s a bonus.

Another excellent thing: In Idaho there is no set speed for reckless driving. In a lot of states that speed is 85mph. With some of the 75 mph speed limits you see people going over 85; not realizing they are risking a reckless driving charge and higher insurance premiums.

My grandma and her 2nd husband in Ohio used to drive a bit, like going out to the Dairy Queen. I’m sure the old guy drove maybe 25 MPH - he was about 85. 2 lane roads - no fast lane. They would also call the cops to report suspected burglars and possible spaceship landings on their farm.

Another guy up the road offered to drive my Aunt and cousin to their doctor appointments when they weren’t able to do so. He was 99 at the time. I think he made it to 101.

Hey, try driving in Thailand. Noodle carts dicing it out with 18-wheelers, people driving the wrong way for a bit on a divided highway, u-turns in the center of high-speed highways. Little scooters darting across a 4 lane highway without stopping or looking. 3 or 4 pre-teens on motorbikes going to school ...

In the passing lane, the one behind the car in front of it, always wants to go faster than the car in front of it. So if you have a car in the passing lane going 85, the next car behind (who is tailgating) wants to go 90. By the time you are 10 cars deep in tailgaters, the last car in line is going 130 by the time they get in front.

This happened in China and it's not a rare occurrence. Chinese person who missed her exit and stopped in the middle of the fast lane rather that go to the next exit and turn around. Some people simply have no business driving.

Husband: how was your drive back home

Wife: it was fine, I missed the exit, but I managed.

We have that law in Colorado. It’s nicknamed the “road rage” law b/c you want to kill the person who is riding along in the left lane and stacking up traffic behind them. The law states even if the person is going to speed limit, he/she is to yield to faster traffic behind him/ her. There are posted signs but we still have to deal with it, especially on I 70 in the mountains.

A step in the right direction, but national elimination of maximum speed limits, and replacing them with the “Basic (safe) speed limit” is a better way to go.

Also, reflexes should be tested when applying for a license. This is where the road boulder problem can be addressed.

Sensible, but those trucks pay a huge highway tax through their weight fees.

Only two Idaho drivers have been cited for driving too slowly in the fast lane since the state’s new “slowpoke” law took effect July 1.

Then it isn't being enforced enough. Say what you will about the Germans (I do), but they don't hog the left lane and then throw a tantrum when someone behind them wants to go faster. That's an American phenomenon, and it's the result of lousy driving practices.

Virginia passed a law a couple years ago making it illegal to be in the left lane unless you are overtaking traffic in the right.

No one obeys it. The LEO’s do not enforce it. I’d guess still 55% of all drivers hang in the left lane.

AMAZING however that in Europe and South America not only do drivers stay in the right lane, but EVERYONE in the left lane quickly moves over to the right when a faster vehicle approaches from the rear - no need to flash lights.

How is it that this is not a fundamental principle taught in Driver’s Ed here? And not emphasized in our DMV manuals???? HUH???????

Ok - here is a survey: WHY do left-laners stay in the left lane?

I believe 2 primary reasons, depending on personality: a. Insecure drivers & a lot of women hang in the left lane. b. Selfish, arrogant and controlling types (mostly men) insist on hogging the lane and making you go around them.

Other reasons? What do you think? I’m sure there are more......

Wow, this is great. I got pulled over by a cop near Downieville, CA for going too slow. I was going below the speed limit looking for a good pull-out so the kids and I could get down to the North Fork of the Yuba River to fish. I probably was doing 35 or 40 in a 45 zone. He gave me a warning...and then told me where to go fishing.

In the Idaho story, farther down it says this: “Two years ago, a bill was introduced addressing the issue of passing on two-lane roads, Clow said. That law now allows drivers to go 15 mph over the speed limit to safely pass a vehicle going below the speed limit. This law does not apply to multilane highways or Interstate 84”

Wow...must be the first state in the country to allow you to break the speed limit while passing. I always thought it was downright stupid — there’s no way you can pass somebody in a 60 zone who is doing 57 without going over the speed limit (unless you have five mies of straight, empty road in front of you).
