Poll: Senate race between Cruz, O'Rourke a dead heat
The Hill ^ | 08/01/18 | Max Greenwood

The Texas Senate race between Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D-Texas) is neck and neck, according to a new poll released Wednesday.

The 2018 Texas Lyceum Poll showed Cruz leading O'Rourke by a hair — 41-39 percent among likely voters. That's well within the survey's margin of error of 4.67 percentage points.

That's a particularly tight margin for Texas, which has not elected a Democrat to the Senate in three decades.

The findings come weeks after O'Rourke, a three-term congressman, reported a staggering $10.4 million fundraising haul in the second quarter of the 2018 cycle, bringing his cash-on-hand to just under $14 million.

That's far more than the incumbent Cruz, who raised about $4.1 million in the second quarter and has about $9.3 million in cash on hand, Federal Election Commission filings show.

Texas has normally been a reliably red state, voting for President Trump over his Democratic challenger Hillary Clinton by 9 points in 2016.

Chris Wilson, a former pollster for Cruz's 2016 presidential campaign, called the poll's findings into question on Wednesday, saying that the partisan breakdown for the survey “looks nothing like Texas voters.”

Nah, it will just be a sign that we AIN’T BUILT THE DAMN WALL YET!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
+1
If we don’t build the wall and start removing illegal aliens at a much higher number, Texas will be going Democrat.
I don’t do the MSM and rarely hear of Cruz. However, That is what I would expect since I don’t live in Texas.
Now they are sending text messages asking if I’m voting for Beto. I responded “No I will not be voting for the National Socialist Workers Party candidate. “
They wrote back asking which candidate I was referring to. LOL!
“””””””””””Before 2016, I (I am not a Texan) to see and hear Cruz a lot. I guess it was for his POTUS run? Now, I forget he even exists, I see him on TV so little.”””””””””””””””””
If he constantly said TRUMP SUCKS you would see him all the time.
Assuming Ted never put the moves on a 14-year old in the mall, we should be fine.
Complete BS. I live in Texas, and Beto has ZERO chance of winning - if you look at the poll, it's obvious.
The poll shows Cruz at 41%, and Beto at 39% - so there are 20% undecided.
The Dems, are fired up, and excited about Beto, they can't wait to vote against Trump, and he's only at 39%?
That 20% is going to break 90% in favor of Cruz. Yes, there are a lot of Cornyn type Republicans who don't like Cruz, and didn't like Trump, but they couldn't vote for Hillary, and they won't vote for Beto - they voted for Trump, and they WILL vote for Cruz.
This poll is just playing off the political dynamics of Texas, where we have a Republican coalition of the establishment (Bush and Cornyn types), and the non-establishment (Trump and Cruz types). The majority of the 20% of undecided are members of the establishment wing of the Texas GOP coalition, and they WILL show up and vote for Cruz.
Ted is the perfect example of Peter's Principle.
He is good in the Senate....but in other positions. he's simply obnoxious.
It shouldn’t even be close. The lowest unemployment in history and 4% growth vs. the Democrats offering free abortions, transgendered restrooms and eventually Venezuelan style socialism. Don’t they know that under socialism, they might get their special trans bathrooms but there won’t be any toilet paper?
People on FR miss the point, Lyn' Ted is hated by almost everyone but a few Kool-Aid drinkers here on FR. I've said all along that he should have stepped aside to allow a viable Republican candidate take the seat. Instead, a Democrat will likely do so.
Beto is out campaigning, working for a victory. What is Lyn' Ted doing? Heck, he hasn't apologized even once for his Never Trumper ways. I suspect we'll seem him do some form of mea culpa to get Trump supporters but it won't undo the permanent damage he's done to himself. Too bad Trump will ignore it and endorse him, he'll likely lose even with Trump endorsement.
And it could have been avoided had Republicans been allowed to put up a Trump Republican instead of a damaged Never Trumper. When will the party learn?
LOL !!!
This “poll” is nothing but a fund-raiser for Beto. Good! Any money raised will just be money diverted from another closer race.
Prediction:
Cruz wins by mid-teens. Abbott wins by high-teens.
I do not see any commercials for either candidate on TV. The only thing that could make Cruz lose a few votes is his "vote your conscience" stunt at the RNC in 2016. I vowed to never vote for him again after that. However, he eventually came around and supported Trump, and I voted for him in the primary and will vote for him in November.
The only yard signs I see are for Beto and they have all been in the Montrose (gay) part of town which I drive through on my way to work.
Looks like POTUS will have to hold a rally in Texas to save Cruz’s Cubanadian behind. Haha.
