You present an interesting, if far-fetched, hypothetical. And as you noted, the 22nd Amendment talks only about elections. I wonder why it was framed that way. They really should have said something about “serving as President” to close the loopholes.
Anyway, consider this only slightly less far-fetched scenario. The 22nd Amendment makes no mention of the Vice-Presidency. It’s 2020 and Hillary gets the Democrat nomination, again. She picks Obama as her running mate in an attempt to boost the black voter turnout.
