Scientists see fingerprints of climate change all over California’s wildfires
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | August 3, 2018 | by Kurtis Alexander

Much of the heat that’s gripped California and hastened the spread of deadly wildfires recently is due to a strange but familiar shift in the jet stream — one that’s haunted the West with threatening fire conditions in the past and could cause more hot, dry spells in the future, especially with a changing climate.

The jet stream, the river of wind high above the Northern Hemisphere, has been weaker and wavier in the past few weeks, scientists say. Instead of pushing weather systems along as it usually does, it’s allowing the patterns to stagnate.

“We’re seeing this mix of conditions across North America and Europe, but they’re all connected,” said Jennifer Francis, a professor at Rutgers University who studies atmospheric circulation. “The weather patterns are just stuck. They’re trapped.”

The shift in the jet stream that’s driving the stagnation, say Francis and other climate scientists, is almost certainly tied to global warming.

It’s just one of the ways that climate change is probably contributing to the spree of fires in California that has killed eight people and destroyed more than 1,000 homes.

The same here in Colorado. Every state in the West has wild fires every year.

I was curious about the largest fire and it was in 1910 and burned over 3 million acres, about the size of Connecticut. It spanned over parts of OR, WA, ID and MT.

Some of those fingerprints are from arsonists. Now, global warmists wouldn’t create their own evidence, would they...

OH, but we can’t cut the underbrush because that would be harmful to the environment! /sarc

Leftists know zero about environmental and wildlife management.

I’m not young, and all my long life I’ve read about annual California wildfires.

How can this possibly be a new thing?

Since 1999, California has kept track of them each year:

Those same “scientists” see these fires being fueled by dried deposits of unicorn poop, and ignited by mind rays from hostile extraterrestrials.

Yep. I guess California never had wild fires before Trump

><

Yeah, Trump flicks lit cigarettes out of Air Force One.

What “scientists” really see is grant money to do more worthless “research” to help the RATs with their ongoing “program” to subjugate the American Taxpayer.

These scientists should get up there and change the jet streams. Why, if climate change is caused by man, they are men and should be able to change it! /heavy on the sarcasm

The Great Chicago Fire, 1871! Proof of Glo-bull warming. Minnesota forests burned at the same time.

More proof of Glo-Bull Warming...Crazy Horse set about 200 square miles of forest, plains, coal seams on fire in 1876 to stop General Crook from chasing him.

More proof of Glo-Bull Warming...1864, When the US cavalry set the plains in Northern Colorado and Nebraska on fire, it burned clear down into Texas.

In 1956, Smoky the Bear advertisements warned of wildfires in the USA burning so much they could cover the entire state of Louisiana. Have we reached that acreage yet?

Yes, fires are only more notable today for two reasons: 1) As more of the population sprawls out into rural land, the cost of fires in homes/insurance becomes a headline, and 2) lack of forest "management" for almost 50 years has left our forests with too much dead "fuel" on the ground that fires rage out of control from forest floor to tree top and no options but to let them burn out. (Before banning BLM lands and Forrest lands from grazing, sheep, cattle, etc would keep the underbrush down, and controlled fires were actually set to prevent the build up of "fuel".)

Of course they do. And, truth be told, they are secretly delighted. "Oh goody, another positive data point to our scam."

From the SAME website, list of top 20 Californian wildfires, earliest was the Matlija fire of September 1932 that burned 220,000 acres in Ventura County:

*There is no doubt that there were fires with significant acreage burned in years prior to 1932, but those records are less reliable, and this list is meant to give an overview of the large fires in more recent times.

Hubby fought wildfires in California for over 33 years. He says most of the huge fires now are because of environmentalists and politicians. No logging, no underbrush clearing, etc., etc. And the trees are all dead and ate up with beetles which Barbara Boxer stopped them from clearing many years ago.
Climate change my rear end.
