The media makes it sound like it’s the victim’s fault for getting shot. I wonder if there is a quote from the shooter? “So yeah - I done robbed them wallets. And I’m walkin’ away, and this cracker comes after me - I thought he’s gonna hit me. So I done shot in self-defense.”
Well, it was a foolish mistake. Broder likely thought he was dealing with a lucid, rational human being who would be happy to keep the cash and cellphone and return his driver's license which had no value. Because, of course, black armed robbers are mostly nice kids who just need a little money for school supplies and nutritious lunches, or maybe help pay auntie's rent. They can be reasonable people, right?
It was a fatal mistake. Then again, people have been shot for doing much less, or even nothing at all.
