After numerous personal anecdotal experiences:

Given two products similar in function etc, 99% of the time the item made in Taiwan is far superior to the Chicom version.
The progress of Taiwanese manufacturing puts me in mind of Japan's postwar journey from LOL crap to some of the best in the world.
