A convoy carrying the U.S. ambassador to Bangladesh was attacked by armed men in the capital city of Dhaka on Saturday evening.

Although Ambassador Marcia Bernicat and her team escaped without injuries, two vehicles were damaged in the violence, according to the Dhaka Tribune. The U.S. embassy thanked local police for their quick response to stop the attackers.

The attack came as thousands of students protested in the country, calling for safer roads. Demonstrations have turned violent. The BBC reported that at least 50 people had been injured on Saturday, and Agence France Presse (AFP) reported put the number at closer to 100.

Political activists belonging to the country’s ruling party have been accused of beating protesters, and police fired rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse the crowds.

“It was a peaceful rally but suddenly police fired tear gas shells aimed at us [that] left several injured," said Mohammad Atikur Rahman, one of the protesters, according to Al Jazeera....

Sounds to me like the attack has nothing to do with the “demonstrations”

All said with zero sense of irony.

Well... they MIGHT have something to teach the city planners of San Francisco:

Bangladesh stops open defecation in just over a decade · by grundle · 54 replies
Associated Press ^ | July 16, 2016
Through a dogged campaign to build toilets and educate Bangladeshis about the dangers of open defecation, the densely populated South Asian nation has managed to reduce the number of people who defecate in the open to just 1 percent of the 166 million population, according to the government — down from 42 percent in 2003.

Gee, maybe there was an anti-Muslim video involved. Or something.

The irony of protesting for safer roads by attacking moving vehicles.

They better watch it with that sort of BS - maybe someone didn't get the memo that there's a new bossman in residence at 1600 Penn. Avenue in D.C.. Messing with our people these days could bring all sorts of trouble, like getting a visit from a Seal team to having JDAMs landing on their shacks.

The police in these countries don’t screw around - they probably opened fire with heavy weapons.

This is why, everyday, I thank the Good Lord above that he chose me to live in the USA. Except for His grace, I could be living in Bangladesh.

I’m also thankful for President Trump. What a refreshing change!

One of the scariest scenes I’ve ever seen in a movie was “Clear and Present Danger”, with Harrison Ford, where the convoy he was riding in was bottlenecked and ambushed in an alley with RPG’s and automatic weapons. It was a horrible feeling - felt like you were right there with them.
