During the rise of mammals, Earth's temperatures spiked in a scary way that the planet may experience again soon.
They were strange days at the beginning of the age of mammals. The planet was still hungover from the astonishing disappearance of its marquee superstars, the dinosaurs.
But the most striking feature of this early age of mammals is that it was almost unbelievably hot, so hot that around 50 million years ago there were crocodiles, palm trees, and sand tiger sharks in the Arctic Circle. There were perhaps sprawling, febrile dead zones spanning the tropics, too hot even for animal or plant life of any sort.
This is what you get in an ancient atmosphere with around 1,000 parts per million (ppm) of carbon dioxide. If this number sounds familiar, 1,000 ppm of CO2 is around what humanity is on pace to reach by the end of this century. That should be mildly concerning.
“You put more CO2 in the atmosphere and you get more warming, that’s just super-simple physics that we figured out in the 19th century,” says David Naafs, an organic geochemist at the University of Bristol. “But exactly how much it will warm by the end of the century, we don’t know. Based on our research of these ancient climates, though, it’s probably more than we thought.”
The early age of mammals was a different world. The continents were in slightly different positions, leading to a vastly different ocean circulation and boundary conditions quite unlike our own world, 50 million years on—with all the tectonic, oceanographic, and biological changes that come with such a yawning expanse of time. But artificially jam enough greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and Naafs thinks that many of the wildest features of the early age of mammals could be recreated.

When they can figure out the melting sequence 12,900 years ago, with the glacier (up to 2 miles thick) between Montana and New York...which seems to have mostly melted in a period of a couple of weeks...then we might be onto something.

Tell us David how much CO2 is in the atmosphere? That’s right- just 0.00136% of the atmosphere has CO2 due to man- Tell us David how just 0.00136% of the atmosphere can possibly trap enough heat to catastrophically warm the planet? Here’s a clue David- it can’t- there is no thick blanket of CO2 surrounding the planet trapping heat-
As well David- Tell us how much heat that does get tapped makes it’s way back to earth? Almost all of the piddly amount that does get trapped gets radiated outwards where equilibrium law takes over- not back towards earth- Even if ALL of the trapped heat made it’s way back to earth, there is so little that it couldn’t possibly register on the scale of heating-

Start of the Cenozoic Era (Age of Mammals) usually said to be 65 million years ago. But that was before a different date was needed to justify totalitarianism.
If only we handed over trillions of dollars to our crooked leaders, we wouldn’t get these scary stories any more.
And "climate" plus "funding", "grants", "policies", "regulation", "studies", "legislation", "agenda", etc., just prompt the "Angry" button.

The problem with the theory, including his interpretation of the past is water. Heat causes evaporation. High altitude water cools the earth. It’s a negative feedback loop.
