Logical answer:
"I do completely disagree with you. Thank you for the opportunity to set forth my own opinion as to "why" in an essay. How long would you like it? I've got plenty of reasons and lots of resources to support them. You will see that the essay is published for all on the school board to read, right?"
That ought to shut the teacher up, eh?
That is a very powerful tactic. I used it to great effect in school myself.
I was supposed to participate in a mandatory live animal experiment in school where we directly measured an anesthetized animal’s blood pressure & heart rate etc while administering drugs. The animals were discarded after the experiment.
I went to discus my participation with the professors, who weren’t budging, until I said that I would do the experiment if they would film it and offer the film as a choice for students who objected to sacrificing an animal.
They said, “No way! We used to do 5 animal labs and now we are down to one”. But I was excused from that lab.
People who are able to push the indefensible because of power structures don’t want anyone learning the facts or having another choice. Sunlight is their enemy.
