Re your tag line:
How true that is. I have a friend who seems to be slipping into psychosis. In her 40s, going through a divorce, and at first I was believing her tales of what her ex is trying to do to her, and I kept advising her to stay safe. But now her phone calls have left all sanity behind and she says people are following her everywhere and that she believes it is an international plot with the FBI and her own doctors all in it against her. They are controlling her thoughts, sending her hidden messages, etc. Cue Twilight Zone music.
Ive tried as a professional and as a friend to tell her she is demonstrating many classic symptoms of delusional thinking, and st the very least should visit a shrink just to tell them her stupid friends think she might be having delusions. And if there is a big international plot against her for real, I will pay her shrink bill. If my friends were all telling me there is a chance I might be suffering a mental illness, Id go talk to someone. But not her. The one with the delusions will NEVER EVER believe the truth.
