First Lt. Marina Hierl has reportedly made history by becoming the first woman in the Marine Corps to lead an infantry platoon.

The 24-year-old is one of four platoon commanders in Echo Company, a group of 175 Marines and Navy sailors who were recently sent to northern Australia, The New York Times reported Thursday.

Hierl is one of two women to the 13-week Marines Corps Infantry Officer Course, according to the Times.

“I wanted to do something important with my life,” she told the newspaper. “I wanted to be part of a group of people that would be willing to die for each other.”

She is now leading a platoon of roughly 35 men for six months of training exercises in the Pacific, the Times reported.

Capt. Neal Jones, commanding officer of Echo Company, reportedly asked for Hierl to be assigned to his unit.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Marines are still schlepping 80 to 100 lbs packs, right?

This wouldn’t be so bad if they didn’t lower the standards which you know they did.

EXACTLY!

And if they remove this “uncultured” mentality from the Marine Corps grunts, then they might as well send the Air Force mess hall guys to the front lines of combat, because that will be the same mentality that you have out there and the number of losses will be UNCONSCIONABLE!

I try to explain to people that I worked in FSSG, Base, MAW and MARDIV - the MARDIV is a completely different animal than any of those other three. We are talking OTHER-WORLDLY, in comparison! The put downs, wise cracks, pranks, language, THOUGHT PROCESSES were often too much for even fellow EFF-STICKS to handle! You must have the world’s toughest skin and sickest mind to play with those Devil Dogs!

AND THOSE ARE GUYS ARE JUST THEY WAY THEY NEED TO BE FOR A COMBAT ZONE!!

Alas, this PC nonsense will only result in the deaths of fine Marines.

This woman knows nothing about the military, but I know that you are right.

They may not be hoisting 900 pound antitank guns over the seawall as their great-grandfathers did at Tarawa 75 years ago, but in combat they will be expected to do something functionally equivalent.

I don’t see the female Lt. leading by example here.

She is already leading from behind, staying in the rear with the gear and just telling folks what to do. The Captain that asked for her must be a weak CO, willing to make his company a social experiment. He sounds like part of the problem, not the solution. Good Marines and Soldiers are going to die because of this lunacy.

Back in the stone age I did a stint as an armor battalion support platoon leader. When deployed, we set up shop in the Brigade trains area, where the forward units of the support battalions were co-located, ordnance, quartermaster, etc. Those units had female soldiers. What a headache. I constantly had troops wanting to sneak off into the bushes with some babe.

I can't imagine the headaches of having them in the same unit.

Mattis is an abject failure, has not rolled back a single lunatic experiment pushed on the military by Obama and is doing not but occupying space. He is the worst Sec Def since McNamara.

Capt. Neal Jones, commanding officer of Echo Company, reportedly asked for Hierl to be assigned to his unit.

His next fitness report should read:
"Able to follow unspoken orders. Politically sensitive. Team player who is willing to go with the flow"

I was talking to a friend of mine the other day.

He went to his first platoon as a freshly trained LT in ‘75.. He said the first thing the very veteran platoon Sgt said to him was, “Welcome Sir. Your job is to shut your mouth and watch.”

I guess it kind of knocked his ego back a little. But it served him well.

I found something...Not a picture, but apparently a c++ program in GitHub she wrote for a lab in school. No joke.

FightOn.cpp

#include
using namespace std;

int main()
{
cout << "Fight On!" << endl;
return 0;
}

Other Marines in that pic do not look pleased to say the least.
The body language I see is “I can’t believe this s$!t”.

I've been out of the Marine Infantry 29 years but I still can't see it. The culture must have changed a whole lot.

For a year and a half I had direct contact with at least 95% of the TBS and IOC students. When they found a way to let women into IOC I asked some of the students how they made it and was told the women had help.

Obama and even the current administration are destroying the Marine Corps.

She’ll be assigned cushy desk jobs very soon. That’s one problem with women in the military: They tend to take the cushy jobs and men do the work.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Marines are still schlepping 80 to 100 lbs packs, right?

During their training at TBS the young 2Lt's usually take out about 120lbs on Range Week if they are going to stay overnight. One group was ordered to pack extra and were lugging over 130lbs. One of their female Lt's was about 5'1" and weighed about 100lbs. She had a difficult time.
