Yes we committed many more troops than the other United Nations allies, except for South Korea itself. We were able to get a Security Council vote to intervene because the Soviet Union was boycotting to get Taiwan replaced by Red China in the United Nations.
Yes, a formal end to the war is very much in DPRK’s hands.
Donald Trump took pity on them. There aren’t too many other presidents who would. Even Obama didn’t. The day of salvation is at hand for North Korea. It is North Korea’s move to in turn accept God’s gesture towards them.
American troops in Korea are basically hostages to assure peace and a tripwire if the North does anything. If the North attacks the South, the U.S. will obviously have to pour in troops and money to protect the troops presently in S. Korea.
Did you know that US troops in Korea have been relocated to a huge camp in Pyeongtaek, Camp Humphreys, South of Seoul and out of artillery range of the vast majority of DPRK cannons?
North Korea, and Kim Jong Un particularly, has been liberally instructed in what THEY must do to end the longest-lasting state of war that has ever existed on this planet. It has never been in their interest before to actually sign a peace treaty, as there was always the chance that the United Nations would turn its back altogether, and South Korea could be once again overrun, thereby uniting the entire Korean Peninsula.
That has ALWAYS been the objective of the North Korean regime, no matter what else they may say, and they have counted on the South Korean republic somehow failing, through either internal political chaos, or economic collapse.
But with the immediate and repeated example of both the United States and Japan, the canny South Koreans have developed a well-honed political and economic model that is relatively resistant to such dangers, and they are among the more stable of countries in the world.
I’d agree that South Korea has been a witness as to what is possible under the Western model. And so have other nearby prosperous Oriental countries. Even China after a fashion, with its tension between capitalism and communism. Being gratuitously poor for no real reward stinks mightily.
They’re slightly ahead of us on technology in certain ways.
It’s a United Nations police action.
At least practically, if not in theory. South Korean built items are some of the nicest in their price range in the world.
oh, we don’t think so. If the war is declared over, then Korea takes full advantage of the open thaw and does what they please, backed by an emotionally weak soko, as well as more open relations with Russia, China and Iran, leaving no reason whatsoever to continue talks with the US, and, in fact, escalating the risk to the US of continued aggressive behavior.
If I were ever to buy another car (doubtful with my amputation) I’d take a hard look at the Genesis line-up.
Sorry to hear about the amputation. Leg?
Yes, my left leg. My wife lost her right leg around the same time.
So sorry to hear that. Driving would still be possible but trickier.
But, ya know (or should know) I’m starting to take on a war time mentality. Those who have believed are going to suffer in various ways, because they have attracted the attention of the Enemy.
This is a time to become less focused on self and more focused on the Lord. He will still keep on providing, but we will more and more be in “work-around” situations as we go. It’s ultimately to demonstrate His glory (and also frustrate the Enemy, who is hoping to bring us down in selfishness). But giving oneself to the Lord is also to give oneself to other people that He is desiring to bless in order to lead some to repentance.
This is an extremely reasonable ask. End the war. Period, then dismantle.
This is not unreasonable. Also has a nice, mid-term feel to it, “I ended the Korean War.”
Just sayin’.
Agree. We do not owe the S. Koreans anything. The Chosen Hotel in Seoul was ok for senior CPT’s and above, but; the troops could not afford the place in 73-74. We have to let our military rest. Look at the increase in production of heroin in Afghanistan since 2001. Our troops became just as addicted as the Russians army was. 90% of the poppy plants in the world are grown there. I recall reading an increase in harvest that was like 200-400 times what it was prior to 2001.
.
This would be a major mistake!
Let the Norks demilitarize first.
Right on!
End everything.
