The damn war games are a joke with one US Infantry Division. The clowns I saw in 73-74 were screw off leg infantry NCO’s who damn sure could not be a platoon anything with INDIG troops in combat. The 1LT’s had no CIB. The field grades were ticket punchers with mostly MACV combat patches or leg infantry units.These war games are a joke. The South Koreans could kick our fanny back then and probably now. I say that as our military rides up and down MSR’s/roads. We have this mechanized mind set. I could tell about the lousy protection that APC’s have, but; one can recall the Russian trucks, all APC’s, plus tanks littering the roads of Afghanistan. Add the drug addiction of the Russian troops. I believe we have that also.
American troops in Korea are basically hostages to assure peace and a tripwire if the North does anything. If the North attacks the South, the U.S. will obviously have to pour in troops and money to protect the troops presently in S. Korea.
