North Korea, and Kim Jong Un particularly, has been liberally instructed in what THEY must do to end the longest-lasting state of war that has ever existed on this planet. It has never been in their interest before to actually sign a peace treaty, as there was always the chance that the United Nations would turn its back altogether, and South Korea could be once again overrun, thereby uniting the entire Korean Peninsula.

That has ALWAYS been the objective of the North Korean regime, no matter what else they may say, and they have counted on the South Korean republic somehow failing, through either internal political chaos, or economic collapse.

But with the immediate and repeated example of both the United States and Japan, the canny South Koreans have developed a well-honed political and economic model that is relatively resistant to such dangers, and they are among the more stable of countries in the world.
