Executions are slow-walked on purpose in my opinion. If they were done quicker, the death penalty might actually have a deterrent effect and increase calls for the death penalty elsewhere.
Liberals want to keep the argument that the death penalty has no deterrent effect so their strategy is to delay for decades in the few places it is imposed.
Timothy McVeigh did get a quick execution but remember, McVeigh himself did all he could to push that along.

We had 2 in Washington State went pretty quick. They asked for it and chose not to pursue any appeals
Wesley Allan Dodd convicted of child rape and murder, sentenced in 1990 - hanged in 1993
Jeremy Vargas Sagastegui, the triple murderer, plead guilty in 1996 - lethal injection in 1998
