The only reason this is even an issue is because certain parties want it to remain an issue. We know how to perform executions that are quick, efficient, and painless. Simply put them in an airtight chamber, pump in pure nitrogen and wait. Once the person is well and truly dead, exchange the nitrogen for standard atmosphere and remove the body. No muss, no fuss, and no deadly chemicals involved. The condemned won't even know he's dead until he meets his new roomates in hell. The nitrogen can be vented out the roof with no ill effects.

As emotionally satisfying as it may be to make the scum to be executed suffer, it's not necessary and counterproductive.

Again, the fact that there is any controversy over methods of execution is because both sides apparently want the controversy to continue for their own reasons.

Yes, there are ways to be efficient. When I’ve had to put my pets down, they give one shot to put them out and the second to stop the heart. It is painless, quick and kind.

We needn’t wish for the suffering of the criminal. I have nothing but contempt and anger for the bastards, but despite how heinous they are, we are not like the criminal. It is vengeful and beneath us.
