THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

JEROME KERN

CENTENNIAL SUMMER

Jerome composed his last film score, “Centennial Summer,” in 1946 where the songs were as resplendent as the story and characters were mediocre. His collaborators for lyrics included his old friend Oscar Hammerstein, Leo Robin, and E. Y. “Yip” Harburg.

“ALL THROUGH THE DAY”

This song was nominated for an Oscar. Hammerstein provided the lyrics. Frank’s version was only one of several that resided on the Hit Parade when the movie was released, and it’s an Axel Stordahl arrangement, full of sugary strings.
