A friend here in Hilo got the rat lung disease from eating home grown lettuce. The snail or slug just has to leave a slime trail on the vegtables to make them toxic. He described the terrible time when the parasites got into his brain....nothing but excruciating pain and mind disruption.

So, here when in doubt we wash the veggies in bleach water followed by a good rinse.
