For those of you who don't know, Doctor Parker for who this mission is named after is from Chicago. He's a HERO in the science world. He was roundly criticized for years after publishing his research and papers on the Sun, solar winds and more. He stuck to his guns, believed he was right, and after YEARS he was finally vindicated and proven right.

He's the reason this mission to the sun is happening in the first place.

Great comments. Just after liftoff, in a pause between the burns, the NASA commentator inverviewed Dr. Parker. His hand was shaking as he held the microphone.

She asked him what he thought about this mission and the launch. He said that he was excited to see what we would learn over the next 6 to 7 years. He also mentioned that seeing a live launch (his first) was like the Taj Mahal: pictures really don't do it justice.

Glad he's gotten to see the launch. Hope he's around when the data comes in.

Bio: Eugene Newman Parker
