Iran's president says he'll talk to Trump "right now"

Washington (CNN)Iranian President Hassan Rouhani issued a challenge to President Donald Trump on Monday, saying the Islamic Republic would welcome talks with the US "right now."

"I don't have preconditions. If the US government is willing, let's start right now," Rouhani said during an interview that aired on state television late Monday local time, just hours before the US renewed sanctions on Iran. "If there is sincerity, Iran has always welcomed dialogue and negotiations," Rouhani said. Trump's national security adviser John Bolton, when asked about the offer by CNN's Jake Tapper, dismissed it as possible "propaganda."

"Let's see what really comes of it or whether it's just more propaganda," Bolton said, adding that Trump has been "consistent" that he would be willing to negotiate with regimes such as North Korea and Iran. "If the Iranians are really willing to come and talk about all of their malign behavior in the region and around the world, I think they'd find the President willing to do it," Bolton said. But the Iranian President expressed concern that Trump is the unreliable one, pointing out that the US President has backed out of previous dialogue with Tehran as well as other international agreements.

Exactly. The Iranian regime is in serious trouble and they have watched North Korea. The Mullahs are desperate to distract and stall. What better way to distract than suggest to the restless population that change is in the wind. And then at the right time, were the rioting to subside, the Mullahs would ruthlessly crush the resistance without mercy and with much spilled blood.

No deal.

Sure sounds like Bolton wouldn’t mind insulting them enough to keep any talks from happening.

It was Trump’s suggestion. At least, I presume you’re not trying to call Trump the provocateur and mendacious one...

“Just in the last week or so they said that they had no interest in talking with President Trump. Something sure has changed.”

Not really. This is just fake news CNN trying to paint Iran as the reasonable ones, and President Trump as an irrational bull in a china shop.

They are simply misrepresenting the true positions, to serve their preferred political narrative, as always.

No preconditions?

Perhaps DJT has a few...starting with "Death to America" and "Death to Israel" being publicly and formally retired.

In business or politics, my experience with Iranians has been unless you totally agree to their agenda, negotiations end becoming a circular discussion. Their goal being to achieve agreement by simply wearing the opposition down. Merits are irrelevant.
Best practical example I’ve found is; after politely informing a car salesman “not interested”, salesman proceeds to close the deal by progressive inclusion of each member of the dealership’s management team. One finally agrees to buy a car or walk out in dire need of some calming influence.

The Prime Minister of Iraq, Haider al-Abadi, announced that he cancelled his upcoming trip to Iran because of his “busy schedule.” Talk about a snub if I’ve ever seen one.

:)
