Probably because if there was no law, no normal person would be taping things in the Situation Room.

If the White House Situation Room is designated a SCIF, which it likely is, she broke a bunch of laws and regulations. Just bringing in a portable electronic device is a violation, even if she didn’t use it.

The Situation Room is a SCIF (Sensitive, Compartmented Information Facility) which carries a Top Secret classification. It is illegal for anyone to bring recording devices into a SCIF without prior authorization. She broke the National Security Act, 50 U.S.C.
