BISMARCK, N.D. - Supporters of legalizing recreational marijuana in North Dakota have succeeded in getting the measure on the November ballot.

Secretary of State Al Jaeger says proponents submitted more than enough valid petition signatures.

Supporters of legalizing recreational marijuana failed on a petition drive in 2016.

It’s all about money. People will die. Kids will get sucked in. But don’t worry....it’ll help to fill the state coffers.

ND resident here. I really don’t know many people that have any interest in it. Just the college crowd, nothing new there.

This should be a shoe in for ND. I mean, is there anything else to do in North Dakota except get high?

Still illegal under US law. This has to be nipped otherwise the rule of law is meaningless.

This is a done deal. I’m not happy about it, but I know when the public has made up their minds.

Congress has zero authority to legislate on this, all Federal anti-marijuana laws are unconstitutional.

The eventuality of recreational reefer is inevitable. Trump should shanghai the issue and snatch a couple million voters.

Guess what? States have asserted their rightful authority under the Tenth Amendment and told fedgov to eff off.

You know what else? Fedgov has not and will not do squat about it.

The full decriminalization of marijuana at the federal level is imminent.

It will occur before Trump leaves office IMHO.

Back when I lived there, North Dakota had the second highest birthrate in the nation after Utah. Two of our three kids were born there.

As one of the most agricultural states in the nation, North Dakota was one of the first to suffer from the Great Depression. The USDA actually encouraged growing MJ there as an alternative cash crop for ropemaking. That is, until prohibition was repealed and its former employees were transfered to the DEA. It was then discovered you could do a lot more with it than make rope.

Wildwood flower is a tough weed to eradicate. Throughout my high school years there, rumors would fly about a stray patch discovered here and there, often not far away at all.

Even as the most populous county in the state, acres outnumber humans by more than 6:1 today. Circa 1970, it was more than 15:1.
