My son took a free university course for Python programming from the University of Michigan and I followed along. At one point, one of the instructors made a comment about “early & often” with a little smug smile and snicker.

There is some serious BS going on here.

I have been involved with DEF CON for almost 20 years and I have never heard of this “Molly Hall”.

There are very few people, if any, that would be considered a spokesperson for DEF CON. No one involved with it would ever make the claim that modifying a fake version of a website was a news worthy event.

I am sure that they set up some sites for the kids to hack into and change. I’m also sure that they were set up with known vulnerabilities so the kids could find them and take advantage of them. And they were set up to look like election related sites in order to demonstrate the potential impact of what such vulnerabilities could lead to. That all sounds very much inkine with what they would teach at the “roots asylum” (kids workshops) portion of the conference.

But this story is someone who is taking advantage of the lack of knowledge of the press (go figure?) and pretending to be an authority showing something significant.

Did You know that while We (NASA) created a Ballpoint Space Pen that pumps the Ink to the Tip so it would write in Zero Gravity the Ruskie’s simply took a bunch of #2 Pencils up to Space...

The downside to graphite pencils is graphite is conductive. Break off the end of a graphite pencil and you have a potential electrical short floating around the space capsule. You don’t want to sharpen a graphite pencil in space as now you’ve created microscopic graphite dust, which is also conductive.

Maybe not all of them.

I learned Every Command in DOS6.0/6.2 and 6.21 by reading, printing out and practicing them. I had a stack of Tractor Feed Printouts almost 1.5’ thick. I did that with an IBM PS2, 40MB HDD, 4 Meg Memory, 2400 Baud Modem and a Parallel Port back in the late 80’s.

Like the 3rd one with the screen attached to the CPU

I made cables for INTERLINK and created Multiple Boot Choice Menu that had IIRC 8 choices: PS2 Factory, DOS6.xx, INTERSERVER, INTERLINK, Games, WINDOWS 3.0 and WINDOWS 3.11 Boots.

I also INTERLINKED the PS2 to an OLD 8086 PORTABLE that had a 5” Monochrome screen, 20MB HDD, 640 KB Memory (after buying more Chips to Upgrade), 5.25” Dual Floppies, 1 Ser Port, 1 Parallel Port and the Keyboard folded down out of the front to expose the screen snd floppy drives. Also had the Okidata Dot Matrix Printer working too. I did all that just because My Brother-in-Law told Me it wouldn’t ever work. I had no choice but to do it then just to prove him wrong...

Kids these days are Light Years ahead of that in both Hardware and Software.

My Grandson is 16 Months and has already figured out how to make most of My iPhone6S+ do it’s thing.

It’s not that hard to make a simple .bat file if one wanted to get fancy toss in a few CALL , DEL, REN Commands.

I have a geek nephew who definitely could have hacked into anything he wanted at age 11.

He is older now, and doesn’t tell me everything, but I know he works the night shift because no supervisors are there and he can do whatever he wants instead of working.

Why? He automated his computer based work so it is done without requiring any effort on his part. His boss does not know—and he will never share that information with his employer.

Really sharp geeks can do miracles with computers.

How many ballots can they shove in their trunk to secure for ‘absentee ballot counting?’ So many ways to cheat...

FOUR Broward County Election employees were caught in a locked room at a Supervisor of Elections location (Lauderhill) madly racing to fill out ballots in the days prior to the 2016 election. [Early voting]

They were stopped under legal threat from the Trump campaign. They claimed to be converting military ‘faxed’ ballots.

Hillary knew from last minute internal polling that she would lose Florida. Panic had set in and desperate cheating attempts were in place. And this is just the tip of the iceberg.

That Space Pen story is an urban myth. The manufacturer did all the R&D on their own and brought it to NASA.

NO. These are fake sites with tons vulnerabilities, probably already known to the "hackers". This is a pure propaganda event.

The Cybersecurity 202: Def Con hackers couldn’t crack a mock voter database. It’s a rare bright spot for election security.

I do not believe your statement about your grand son......perhaps I miss understand what you claim

Your grandson does not understand what the iPhone is doing. What he has figured out is how to push buttons and slide things.

All the latest studies show there is major damage to children who use technology at too early an age.....and for too many hours a day

All those things you talk about doing are nice but you weren’t 11 when you did them

Children are not light years ahead at all. They have access to technology. Most of them couldn’t write a line of code if their life depended on it. They don’t understand the hardware or even how it is manufactured.

The technology allows them to believe the world is instantaneous when it is not. It has given them the sense satisfaction is guaranteed. They believe everything they read on wiki or see on CNN. They lack discernment. Almost none of them have travelled.

These children are no smarter or quicker than my generation or my parents or grandparents

I know such people too

They are very interested in that particular type of work ...my son-in-law us one. I worked with them in Silicon Valley.

My point wasn’t that there may be an occaissional 11 year old who can do those things....just that most can’t or won’t.

I don’t give a damn what you believe or not. He selects the pic folder and looks at them one by one, recognizes the different Dogs We have, People He has met, knows the arrow will play a video. Turns the Alarms on and off. He’s even called His Mother on the Video Phone once. He looks at a frontal pic of one of the Dogs and turns the phone over looking for the ass end of the Dog.

Wad your “studies up” and store them for someone else. the studies told us that eggs were gonna kill us because of cholesterol, then they changed their tune and said eat the bacon too. globull warming, cow farts yada yada yada blah blah blah...

Never said that I was 11 when I did those things.

I never said that Kids can write “Code” I said a Batch File- Big difference in the two.

He’ll not be watching the commie snewz network around here and has no use for Wikipedia yet if at all.

These Generations of Kids ARE smarter than We, Our Parents and Grandparents were at respective ages, believe it or not I don’t care.

I think that you have very little if any hope for the future. you might try pouring the piss out of your bowl of cornflakes and use milk instead and maybe a bit of sugar or honey. They’ll taste way better.

Try to have a nice day .
