Can someone explain Hogan’s appeal to me?

Haven’t followed him. How is he winning in Maryland?

Is he conservative, moderate or liberal?

Thanks!

Apparently, just not being a D is starting to have a certain amount of appeal in the long-suffering blue states.

He beat incumbent Lieutenant Governor Anthony G. Brown who served under Martin O Malley for eight terrible years of O Malley and a Dem legislature raising endless taxes and fees.

Hogan ran against O’ Malley’s governorship and won.

He reversed many bad things passed.

He is not especially conservative but in Maryland we lived under O Malley and his past lame opponent Bob Ehrlich (GOP).

Ehrlich got his ass kicked in 2006 by O’ Malley then came back for another beating in 2010 by O’ Malley.

He was pathetic.

This election is a no brainer for us in Maryland,

How is Republican Hogan gaining votes in 2 to 1 Dem to Rep voter state?

First month in office, he reduced the EZpass tolls on bridges, highways. Rolled back other tax gouges of O’Mally (O’Money)

Also got sympathy when he had treatment for cancer and was bald for months.

Been Jealous. What a perfect name for a Democrat. It sums up what drives them.

As a Maryland resident -
Hogan does not wear any particular label. He is very much a common-sense “let’s get to fixed” kind of guy. In a dark-blue state, he manages to be effective making people believe that better roads, lower tolls, quelling riots, business health, a clean Chesapeake and others are for the benefit of all regardless on their politics. The left has tried consistently to put the Trump label on him without success.

But Wait!!

On election night Democratic officials will discover bags of ballots in desk drawers, boxes of ballots in the trunks of cars, cartons of ballots in dark corners of warehouses. They will recount until the Dem wins!

It’s complicated. Hogan’s father was a well liked politician for many many years, who appealed to conservative Democrats and Republicans.

Larry Jr. Started with the same geographical set of voters- Bill Clinton Democrats (business oriented) and ‘mostly’ GOPe Republicans.

In recent years, the radical left has taken over Montgomery Country, PG County, and Baltimore City. But Hogan has a coalition from his roots in Baltimore country, rural MD, and a few non-radical Democrats that put him over the top.

It has been well know, the Democrats would gerrymander districts with enough blacks to elect a Democrat, but not enough to elect a Black Democrat - as a percentage, blacks are under represented in the MD house.

If Jealous (who is black loses) in a state where Democrats outnumber Republicans 2-1, you could see them sit out a future election.

There are few people more aptly named than Benjamin Jealous.

It’s simple. Even when it comes to libs they want an adult in charge. Hogan can best serve us when the next Senate seat comes up while Trump is still in office.

Ben Jealous simply has the wrong name for a politician. I’m sure Bob Angry, Joe Humiliated, and Julio Constipated would all be running far behind, too. :-P

Also, I read a few of the comments on Washington Post. Jealous supported Bernie Sanders, and the Clintonistas are still blaming him for giving us Donald Trump - so they plan to vote for Hogan.

Gosh, it's almost as if allowing the local gentry to burn down Baltimore has some kind of longer term impact on state politics. Thanks 11th_VA.
