10 years ago who would have thought that bakers and cakes would have been the vanguard of this battle?

I wonder if he could sub it out to another bakery who doesn’t care about the homo theme? They can’t force the guy to make the cake if he has someone else making it for the scumbag lawyer. If I made the cake they would never want to come to my bakery ever again.

I didn't expect them to attack bakers but if you think about it that was the logical place to start.

Bakers are usually small independent businesses where you lack both the finances and support system for a protracted legal battle.

Once you make a few examples, the thought was, the rest will cave. Especially with those on the "right" pushing that the person do everything BUT stand up for their rights under the First Amendment.

Two things have stopped that. They went overboard with the penalties and Donald Trump.

If the fines had been small the temptation to just pay it so it would go away would be profound. Once you give in you admit that they have the "right" to punish you. Once that ground is given up you never win it back.

As for Donald Trump being the other factor, this decision would not have been in his favor with that obama nominated shoe scraping on the SCOTUS.

60 years ago the person who requested the cake would have been beaten to a pulp. That would have been the end of that type of request.
