Garbage from Washington state’s booming pot industry clogs gutters, sewers and landfills

SEATTLE — Washington state’s penchant for getting high is trashing the place.

Plastic “doob tubes” and small Mylar bags used to package pot are moldering in gutters, bleaching out in landfills and bobbing in waterways.

Concentrated nutrients and fertilizers left over from cannabis growing operations are being dumped in public sewers and making their way past wastewater treatment plants into Puget Sound. And millions of pounds of weed harvest waste that could be composted are instead getting trucked to landfills.

This, in a part of the country that prides itself on being environmentally friendly.

“We’re seeing a lot of marijuana packaging in our public spaces,” said Heather Trim, executive director of Zero Waste Washington, which organizes litter cleanups. “Cannabis packaging is adding to our load, which then gets washed into our lakes and Puget Sound.”

In other news, your life will be ruined by their liberal government if you’re caught with a plastic straw.

That’s impossible. Pot smoking libs aren’t litter bugs (you know, environment and all.)

There’s got to be ban on plastic baggies. Also a tax on the sales of Miracle Gro. /sarc.

No sympathy. They are “hip” and want to go around in a drugged out fog all day. Never met a pot smoker full of “get up and go” or “can do” spirit. They will loll about their opium dens in a haze waiting for someone else to clean up their mess. That's probably why they want to import Mexicans.

I’ve known a lot of pot smokers with prison records.

I bet the environmental watchdogs won’t touch this one.

“What is there to do about it?”

Get rid of pre-rolled pot. Either buy it as a vape or buy it in a environmentally friendly bag and smoke it from a pipe or joint.

I have a cousin who I barely know who works for a dope dispensary in Vancouver. I saw my aunt a couple weeks ago for the first time in about ten years. She was waxing poetically of the benefits of marijuana and how wonderful the industry is.

I had a short visit to Washington State last winter and saw enough shiftless derelict layabouts to disagree vehemently with her.

“Doper trash.”

OK, why not complain about cigarette butts on the ground?

Correct. And this applies to higher taxes and more government spending too. Libertarians are often the most vocal proponent for dope. Natually. Yet the concept of legal dope leading to higher tax revenues for the state which of course leads to more spending is lost on them.

BTW - your tagline? We are way in the middle of August and what "truth" has the world learned from Q Anon?

Of course. 98% of inmates are dope users.

But if you listen to the pro-dopers - that fact has nothing to do with nothing

How bout that?

Everything about dope seems to suck for everyone except those that partake, for users all its warts just magically disappear.

That doesn't solve even half the problem. Did you even read the excerpt?
