More than 300 news outlets have launched a campaign to counter US President Donald Trump's attacks and promote a free press.
The Boston Globe made the call last week for a nationwide denouncement of the president's "dirty war" against the media, using the hashtag #EnemyOfNone.
Mr Trump has derided media reports as "fake news" and attacked journalists as "enemies of the people".
And he tweeted on Thursday: "The fake news media is the opposition party."
"It is very bad for our great country... But we are winning!"

UN experts have warned that Mr Trump's comments about the media raise the risk of violence against journalists.
The Boston Globe had pledged to write an editorial "on the dangers of the administration's assault on the press" on 16 August, and asked others to do the same.
The initial positive response from 100 news organisations has grown closer to 350 with major US national newspapers and smaller local outlets answering the call, along with international publications like the UK newspaper The Guardian.
What have the papers said?
-Starting with the Boston Globe itself, the editorial there, headlined Journalists Are Not The Enemy, argued that a free press had been a core American principle for more than 200 years
-The New York Times chose the headline A Free Press Needs You, calling Mr Trump's attacks "dangerous to the lifeblood of democracy". It published excerpts from dozens more publications beneath
-The New York Post - a pro-Trump tabloid - answered the Globe's call by saying "Who are we to disagree?" adding: "It may be frustrating to argue that just because we print inconvenient truths doesn't mean that we're fake news, but being a journalist isn't a popularity contest. All we can do is to keep reporting." But it also said: "Will this make a difference?

Media’s dirty war on Trump.
If I took a newspaper I would cancel the subscription. They are gasping for air.
Is that what they are calling lies now?
Hint to the Post: It’s not inconvenient truths that earn the monicker “Fake News”. It’s blatant falsehoods.

lemme guess, all 300 are owned by Soros.
Will be seen by as many as 50 or 60 people.
The media feels that any deception is justified by the campaign against the president, even lying is okay. “Fake news” is the perfect characterization.
Already the rumblings are this is backfiring.
This is just a loud scream in the never-ending tantrum that started Nov 2016.
Real America knows it and is just shaking its head today.
We did right after Obama's re-election in 2012. Fairly large local newspaper was just quoting AP and Reuters anyway.
First of all, they are NOT "the press." They are corporate media organizations (CMOs).
The press in the Constitutional sense is a device that can be used by people to publish their thoughts and opinions.
Every American, including those who run or work for CMOs, has a right to freely use a press to disseminate his or her views on any subject at any time.
But the reporters at NPR, NYT, Washington POS, CNN, MSNBC and all the other CMOs (including Fox News) do NOT have any constitutional right to have access and be heard at White House "Press" conferences.
They don't have that right, because neither I nor anybody else who posts opinions in print, by broadcast or online has that right, even though we use the press to publish our opinions, as I do regularly on Free Republic. (After all, the Internet is a means of publishing thoughts and opinions and therefore is a "press" in the Constitutional sense.)
And another "right" that these CMOs definitely DO NOT have, is the right not to be insulted by the President, who did not surrender his own First Amendment right to free speech when took the oath of office.
Being invited to participate in a White House "press" conference is therefore a privilege that can be extended or withdrawn purely at the discretion of the White House (or Congress, or the Judiciary in their own venues).
I so wish that at Trump's next "press conference," he will state this reality once and for all. And then I hope he will take a question from Jim Acosta, after prefacing it with the following statement:
"I'm now going to take a question now from Jim Acosta purely as a courtesy, albeit an undeserved one, because this is going to be his last White House 'press conference' during my administration. Additionally, I am revoking the press credentials of CNN,the racist New York Times, and a number of other Corporate Media Organizations who will soon be notified of their change in status. OK Jim, what's your question?"
Then I hope that in the future the White House will issue "Media Passes" to other respectable press users - bloggers, authors, YouTubers, etc. who will be invited to future Media Conferences, provided that they show courtesy, intelligence and respect.
And as for the CMOs, they can watch the President's Media Conferences on C-SPAN and then write whatever the hell they want to about them.
If any violence comes to them its not because they pretend to be journalists, its because they are scumbag communists.
Yet more #FakeNews proving that the press most certainly is the enemy of the people.
President Trump should tweet:
Finally! Something to thank the Fake News for!
More laughs than the Comedy Channel!
All 300 of them are owned by 3 or 4 companies.
They’re circling the wagons.
Enjoy the show, folks!
This is what a Fake News Meltdown looks like.
And president Trump proves his point again.
“CNN Sucks!” “CNN Sucks!”

These idiots - Do they even realize that they were "FREE" to print this editorial ? All the President has done is criticize the media. He hasn't done one damn thing to STOP them from reporting.
If he declared tomorrow that all newspapers are now property of the Government - then they've got something to bitch about.
