Manafort's Purge Trial
PJ Media ^ | 17 Aug 2018 | Roger Simon

I don't care much for Paul Manafort. Like his Democratic Party doppelgänger Tony Podesta he is the kind of pond scum that makes what we call The Swamp The Swamp. Indeed, the two men have worked together in the past, having a natural affinity for exploiting the public interest for maximum profit.

I was going to call this column The Trial of Tony Podesta to point out the ridiculous disparity that one is on trial but not the other. Judge Ellis couldn't have been more right. This is selective prosecution to get at the president. The charges are outrageously broad and deliberately so.

Nevertheless, it doesn't speak well of Trump that he chose to work with a man like Manafort. The president has made some excellent choices (Pompeo) and some doozies (Omarosa). Let's hope he's learning from his mistakes. It's time.

But whatever you think of Manafort, his trial — no matter how it turns out — in its underpinnings resembles nothing so much as a Stalinist purge trial. It is political, self-serving and sadistic. Manafort is being purged — for life, if the prosecution gets its way. Maybe he could write The Mueller Archipelago.

Anyone think Big Brother couldn’t happen here, should examine how they are going after Manafort.

The RNC was blacklisting anyone that worked on the Trump campaign. He had to hire some less than optimal people simply because they were the ones who agreed to work for him. Manafort was an early hire in the campaign, Omarosa was an early hire in the administration. Pompeo is a later hire, after the Trump administration had demonstrated that it was successful and he wasn't going to be impeached.

Manafort worked with and for the Podesta Group prior to being part of Trumps campaign. Why is he the target and not the Podestas?

All of Manafort’s possible crimes were prior to Trump when he was integral with the Podesta’s.

Podesta is the top of the crime group. Why have the Podestas not been targeted?

Manafort was also investigated for this possible tax evasion in the past and the justice department dropped the case. Why has this been revived many years later?

It has nothing to do with Manafort. Mueller wants to make Manafort tell lies against Trump to nail Trump. If Manafort makes up lies against Trump he walks free. Otherwise he may spend the rest of his life in jail. It is really that simple.

As if Trump was supposed to know every evil act anyone he hired had ever committed.

Here's news for you Simon. Manafort hadn't been accused or charged with any crimes when Trump hired him.

He appeared to be a successful businessman, and he came through for Trump.

An ignorant article. No mention of the fact that Manafort was hired for one single purpose only — to thwart the very real and serious GOPe effort to deny Trump the nomination at the RNC convention.

As a long-time DC swamp-creature, Manafort was uniquely suited for the job. He delivered, DJT is POTUS, and that’s all that matters.

Could someone else have pulled it off? Who knows; the author doesn’t even go there.

...”Anyone think Big Brother couldn’t happen here, should examine how they are going after Manafort.”...

The evil nature of humankind is played out in every possible way through this Trump era, outside of Trump, in the second most significant check and balance of our government, the judicial system. Unfortunately, “justice for all,” is non-existent under our current political system. It has been lost over time, drip by drip by drip, and many of us fear where it will end. We pray that those brave enough to take on the Swamp and that is exactly what it is, will not lose heart, but will restore statesmenship and decency to this culture. I believe in God and His justice and I pray everyday that His hand will subdue our enemies, while realizing that He has used enemies throughout time to punish those who reject his covenant with mankind. From where I am and I have been on earth a long time, I see the anti-Christ in all our major institutions now because nearly all of them call evil, good and good, evil. Has God shut the eyes and closed up the ears of our very elect? Sure seems like it.

BTW, Manafort worked as an unpaid volunteer for Trump.

Didn’t cost a dime.

Very good analysis of what is happening. I got into a somewhat intense discussion with a co-worker about the Manafort trial. I pointed out the prosecution is happening only because Trump won.

The one point of disagreement I have is the disparagement of Manafort at the beginning of the piece. The man worked for years for multiple candidates. He was never attacked.

If you read the papers about the court case, it was cut and dry, he did not pay taxes and the jury would be back in 5 minutes.

After 2 days, it is starting to look hung, and Mueller’s case was not that strong to begin with.

So the media just will not tell it like it is, all one continuous lie, like a wheel within a wheel, never ending or beginning....

Manafort under 24 hour lockdown and solitary confinement.

New Mexico jihadists with a dead child are granted release on bail.

That is the type of justice system you get with socialists.....one sided, weaponized and evil.

i think the manafort thing was a hostage taking gone bad. the idea was to take gates hostage, then indict manafort, threaten with rest of life n prison, then get him to flip on Trump

Manafort chose to resist, and so they had no choice but to go trial on charges totally unrelated to Trump.

essentially Manafort called Muellers bluff, and here is the result.

He could still flip on Trump, or he could be pardoned. game has not yet run its course, stay tuned.

Exactly, Simon defeats his own point. He says the whole thing is a political show trial to destroy a man doing a very common thing, and then says Trump shouldn’t have hired him because Mueller says he’s bad. Which is it?

And you’re certain Trump new all Manafort’s previous dealings prior to being called on the carpet?
