In an unusual moment of candor, Cuomo spoke what he really believes. He said it, and he now owns it! You can not walk that back!
That one moment of candor will insure Cuomo will never rise above New York Politics to a national level. Schadenfreude is sweet.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo, running for a third term and a potential candidate for president in 2020, acknowledged Friday that he was “inartful” when he said this week that America “was never that great.”
He wasn't being "inartful" - since that isn't a word, it would be hard to know what he even means by this. He was being honest about how he really feels about America - it's the way most liberals and leftists feel about America: they don't think very highly of it. Most liberals are ignorant about the rest of the world and what most nations are like - they take life in the US for granted and are vastly ungrateful.

I want to be very clear: When I said “America was never great,” that was simply in inartful way of saying “Of course American is great.”

What brings a smile to my face is knowing that he really doesn’t believe America is that great. He showed a rare moment of honesty. So now, every time he has to fall all over himself professing how great America is - in a desperate but hopefully futile attempt to salvage his political career - well, making him say that makes me smile. I hope he chokes on it. He’s an un-American lying POS.

Cuomo ran for Gov pretending to be a moderate and governed that way until the Sandy Hook shooting. At that point he dropped the mask and went hard left. He has been that way ever since.

He let slip just how he feels and how most democrats feel about America. That is why at least some in the party and some of their handlers in the media have objected to his statement, not because they disagree with it, but he let the cat out of the bag.
