The victim tried to alert a nurse using a call button but witnesses testified it had been unplugged.
A former Houston doctor convicted of sexually assaulting a patient while she was tethered to machines and receiving treatment for asthma won't serve any prison time and will instead serve 10 years' probation.
The punishment has surprised defense attorneys, disappointed law enforcement and raised concerns from a victims advocacy group, the Houston Chronicle reported. The victim said through a former attorney that she had no comment and wanted to put it all behind her.

Note, any rape is horrible, but this is a doctor in a hospital raping a sick, helpless patient.
I’ll bet the judge and the doctors are Mason’s
“Note, any rape is horrible, but this is a doctor in a hospital raping a sick, helpless patient. “
I agree 100%.
hmmmmmm
This appears to be a jury decision. Either the jury is composed of leftards that see no crime, or the prosecution did a very poor job.
The problem with rape is that it is not completely a physical issue. The mind can be harmed in a much greater way and may never heal.
I agree, no jail time, just shoot the bastard.
Harris County.
Nuff said.
“Ill bet the judge and the doctors are Masons”
And shape-shifting reptilians too.
My first observation...
Huh? Do they have editors any more?
this is so disturbing. Who gives a @@@! about his dreams, and his families dreams? He is a sick bastard.
I am not sure from the article whether she was raped or not. People throw the phrase "sexually assaulted" around so loosely, that I am not sure what happened here. Remember that George H.W. Bush was accused of sexual assault for grabbing a woman's behind. Likewise, the guy who grabbed Taylor Swift's behind was guilty of "sexual assault". Maybe the jury went easy on him because the assault did not rise to the Whoopie Goldberg definition of "rape" rape?
He admits to raping her.
What the jury was thinking, I don’t know.
In SF I remember a doctor going down on a 13 year old female who was about to be operated on. She was the anesthesiologist.
WHAT?!
I would not be surprised if the women on the jury were the weak link. I've only been on traffic juries, but I have been on several and the women on those juries always favored leniency because they were "uncomfortable judging someone else". I remember on one jury of 6 people, I was the only male. I was amused that the women all suggested I be the foreman of the jury. They all defaulted to the sterotypical "a man should do this" attitude. Of the 5 women on that jury, only 2 were really weak and "uncomfortable". One was pretty hard-nosed, and she and I eventually beat the others down and convicted the obviously guilty perp. It was just a red light ticket. A couple of the women felt sorry for the perp because he was "picking up medicine for a sick family member".
In this rape trial, they probably paraded the perp's family out and got some sympathy from some "uncomfortable" ladies on the jury; meanwhile they sold out the victim.
I wish i had been on that jury!!!
The woman had surgery, and also had an asthma attack, was hooked up to machines, was very ill and you think that in that condition she wanted to have sex with the doctor?!
She tried to get help, but the button summoning the nurse was disconnected.
How would you feel if this happened to one your female relatives?
If I’d been on the jury, there would have been a shouting match in the jury room over this sentence. Disgusting.

Ohhhhhhhh. I see.
