FULL TITLE: Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen pleads guilty, admits to making illegal payments at direction of candidate to influence election

Michael Cohen, the former personal lawyer and fixer for President Donald Trump, has struck a plea deal with federal prosecutors, NBC News reported on Tuesday.

Cohen came under investigation by federal prosecutors in New York City earlier this year. They had received a referral from special counsel Robert Mueller, who is leading the probe of Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

Prosecutors had been eyeing Cohen's business dealings. The New York Times reported that federal authorities were looking into $20 million in loans for taxi businesses linked to Cohen.

Generally speaking...wouldn’t ALL payments in such a time frame (political campaign) by a candidate be to ‘influence’ the election?

Some of this silly crap is just that...crap.

We are closing in on CW-2. Time to choose sides, folks.

He might think that, but it wouldn’t have. Pure speculation!

BTW, I thought Trump paid his own money to reimburse the shylock.

I am not 100% sure if it came from Trump or the Trump campaign...or if the claim by Lanie Davis (Cohen's lawyer and Clinton sycophant) that the purpose was to benefit Trump's campaign.... the problem with Lanie's argument is that Cohen is known as "Trump's Fixer".... he's been doing it for years.... Trump would have paid for silence regardless. I don't know....makes me nervous.

Cohen’s plea language states that he was “directed” to make the payments by an unnamed presidential candidate.

The other fear is the weasels we call Senate Republicans, will likely abandon the ship like rats if that happens. So we can’t count on them NOT impeaching Trump.

Entirely possible - hence why this election is so important. If the Democrats were to win big, some Republicans would certainly claim "the people have spoken" and make the moves to throw Trump out. If the President's own party wins big that narrative would clearly be blunted and seen as a rejection by "the people" of the Mueller probe.

"Second, there's a persistent myth that someone else besides Sessions would have stopped the coup. That's ridiculous, no such person exists. The coup will simply have to run out of gas, sputter and die politically. That's been baked into the cake from day one: political with no criminal action to justify it. So it will have to die from lack of political support (other than the minority of Trump haters who will always support any fantasy)."

It isn't going to run out of gas. Without supervision and with unlimited funds from the deep state, Mueller can go on as long as the President is in office. Mueller can spend as much as necessary to harass and ruin everyone around Trump. He has made it clear that the price of being a prominent Trump appointee will be having your life and the lives of your family turned upside down. Congress will not cut off the money. Many of them are avid supporters of the soft coup. So unless Trump fires as many as necessary, they will slowly bleed the Administration to death and stop Trump's agenda. If Trump fires the coup plotters, he might be impeached, but Muller will not stop, otherwise. There will be more high profile indictments and plea bargains. The next one is likely General Flynn who will have been coerced to give damaging statements in exchange for a shorter prison term.

That's great. Even a child has heard the perfect response to that. If that presidential candidate directed Cohen to jump off a bridge, would he have done it?

Take it one step further ...

The only thing that made these payments an "illegal campaign contribution" by any interpretation was that they were made by Cohen, not Trump. So how does Cohen's admission have any bearing on Trump?

P.S. — Imagine how simple Trump’s defense could be if this goes anywhere: “Yes, I directed him to make the payments. He was my lawyer, and he advised me it was perfectly legal!”

You’re right, we’re powerless. We should just accept their judgement and putter around in out garden as long as we’re allowed to keep it.

I don't see that. Flynn is the one out of the whole bunch who deserves a pardon (and a medal). Essentually Mueller is done. There is no legal path to charge anyone else or amp up charges on the existing guys. He has a couple of tax cheats in Manafort and Cohen, and lying to the corrupt FBI (Papadop and a couple others). Politically, he has lost.

This is the day that the US fell. When attorney client privilege no longer means anything - when the rule of law is subverted for purely political purposes then we no longer have a nation of laws.

It's a lot simpler. This is the day that a politically inspired witch hunt brought down a tax cheat. It means nothing other than what one might expect from such a thing.

I think that would be up to the Federal Elections Commission to decide. If they were to make a criminal referral to the Justice Department. That’s highly speculative and extremely rare.
Of course if the Democrats take control of the House, it could be grounds for impeachment, an impeachment that would fail in the Senate. “High crimes and misdemeanors” are whatever the votes of at least 218 members of the House say they are.

No - listen to the recording - she says specifically where the funds come from. No media framing involved on this. It's what she said.

Lara Trump Quote:

"everything is public...and the money that we raise and that pays salaries is from donors, small dollar donors for the most part."

But the offer was not just free money. It was for a job for Omarose to do work for a PAC, and the PACs all operate on donated money. Don’t get it twisted. Lara was not offering to pay her off; she was offering her a job. Omarosa malevolently called it a pay off.

This has been going on for years... is that all mueller has? after all this time?

Cohen worded it the way this article states? someone else made him do it?

Trump has been a womanizer for most of his life... he enjoyed that life and the women wanted money.. so what else is new.

As long as they ignore the crimes... real prison type crimes... with all of the obama bunch and hillary.. as long as the top positions in our gov are doing what they are doing.. when the guilty can interrogate the innocent.. when the guilty can ruin a man just because he has the position and no one stops him.. as long as it is that black and white in the elite world.. this and nothing else they could dream up.. makes NO difference in my vote for Trump. There is NOTHING that could sway me from Trump when they are a living example of corruptness and hate.. and revenge.

What mueller is doing is making the folks out here more angry and there is no way in hell I’d vote for the other side... my hope is they are taken to task and given the punishment they have earned!

David did some awful things in his lifetime.. and yet he was so loved by God... God chose him and used him.. what he did that was so wrong, did not stop being the man after God’s heart. He was willing... he messed up but he was willing. So is Donald J Trump...
