FULL TITLE: Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen pleads guilty, admits to making illegal payments at direction of candidate to influence election

Michael Cohen, the former personal lawyer and fixer for President Donald Trump, has struck a plea deal with federal prosecutors, NBC News reported on Tuesday.

Cohen came under investigation by federal prosecutors in New York City earlier this year. They had received a referral from special counsel Robert Mueller, who is leading the probe of Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

Prosecutors had been eyeing Cohen's business dealings. The New York Times reported that federal authorities were looking into $20 million in loans for taxi businesses linked to Cohen.

Trump could have ended this long ago if he had been willing to fire Sessions, Rosenstein and Mueller. He didn't for reasons he no doubt thought were and may still be valid, but now the bleeding will continue. Now, Cohen has pled guilty to a felony campaign finance violation at the direction of the candidate.

Let’s hope. Didn’t the Omorosa tape with Lara Trump indicate that they were going to pay Omorosa from small dollar donors? That did not sound good.

I posted this earlier this PM:

“So they manufactured another “crime”. He (cohen) pleads guilty and then trump becomes a party in a conspiracy to commit a manufactured crime.”

Where are the Russians?
So is Stormy Russian now?
Did Stormy strip in a Russian nightclub?

No, but V_Putin did send her 19.95 for a webcam show once.

Hypothetical. Assume the allegations are all true. 1a) Trump had an an affair before running for office. 1b) Clinton had an affair while in office. 1a) Trump directed a payment to silence Stormy prior to running for office, which violates campaign laws, since the purpose was to keep Stormy from influencing the campaign. 1b) Clinton committed perjury to try to keep his affair secret.

They didn't impeach Clinton. They sure better not impeach Trump.

They did impeach Clinton, but the senate didn’t vote to remove him from office.

Any payment a candidate or his campaign makes is intended to influence the election.

The wording here is meant to jolt readers, but it seems silly under logical review.

If Donald personally paid an attorney to make a payment for someone to sign an NDA, it is not illegal. Furthermore, paying someone to go away, whether she is telling the truth or not, is admittedly to keep it out of the headlines and influence his electability. This is not illegal.

The only thing I wonder is if they are going to claim Donald’s payments to Cohen were for fees, not reimbursement for the payments. Therefore the payments were campaign contributions. IF that is their position and IF Donald directed the payments to be mad, you could argue he directed someone to break campaign finance laws. That doesn’t pass the logic test either. Cohen most assuredly didn’t spend his own money.

Only if she was paid with campaign funds. If it’s Trump’s personal funds, no. And I think it was that other woman, Not Daniels, that we’re talking about.

“And this has what to do with “Russian collusion”? ,,,,,,,NOTHING....ZIP....NADDA.”

If it did, Mueller would be bringing the case - not refer the case over to another prosecutor to handle.

This could be a problem for Trump, right? The left is all excited saying he violated federal election law.

Yes. Rudy said it was exculpatory weeks ago. they wanted to pay her by check and not cash so they had a record of the transaction.
