Toppling of Confederate statue in North Carolina could make it harder to negotiate a resolution to the fate of other such monuments in the state. CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — Protesters at North Carolina's flagship university took advantage of a non-confrontational police response to topple a century-old Confederate statue that's long been the target of critics who say it symbolizes racism.

Now, backlash over the Monday night takedown could make it harder to negotiate a resolution to the fate of other Confederate monuments in the state — including three on state Capitol grounds being debated Wednesday by a state historical commission.

This is a monument to the COMMON SOLDIERS who fought for the CSA and for their homeland of North Carolina!!!! They were fighting against the Yankee invasion of their homeland, NOT for slavery or white supremacy!!!!

The leftist thugs who defaced and toppled this statue should be dealt with to the full extent of the law, and this and ALL Confederate statues in the South and adjacent parts of our country must be restored and protected!!!!

Yes, they are part of our history. But there are people determined to destroy all of our history. And it will expand to other statues, other historical sites. It will not stop there. It is a tragedy.

In China, the Red Guards also destroyed the past, destroyed everything, the movement going insane, where eventually they even attacked grass. Students were sent out to pull out grass in parks and gardens.

It is traveling around the country wherever it is needed. It was on Oklahoma City and Detroit before just recently in Little Rock.

we’re all cowards. We leave these leftist thugs take our history away from us and what do we do? Nothing! I was born in a union state and would have supported the North, but no one has the right to take these brave Southern boys history away!

They do make it difficult to continue to support them for sure but I am nearly certain they are not making the decisions, their stand down orders almost certainly come from some university VP or the President. Its going to be on the NC legislature to get the university under control by pulling back the money strings.

Who on FR is cheering this sort of thing?

No one. That's a red herring. I've followed the WBTS threads for years and have only seen one guy who thought that confederate monuments "belonged in a museum". Don't buy into the bullshyt.

I would have fired the President and police chief last night had I been the Governor but he is a democrat sympathizing with the vandals and thugs.

Given the proclivities of the Clinton’s, I can’t say I’m at all surprised.

Most people don't care. This is the result of the gutting of American history in the public schools, beginning more than a generation ago. The Edmund Pettus Bridge and the Stonewall Inn are probably safe for now, but I'm not sure any other historic sites are safe.

Maybe Graceland.

“Gen Albert Pike was the leading Freemason of his day, a confederate general and founder of the KKK.”

Your comment that General Pike was a founder of the KKK is interesting.

May we see your data supporting the claim?

Wonder what the reaction would be — and what would happen if this were toppled over?

Call these leftest bluff.

How you ask, get them on record, and video, ask a very simple question?

The question: Do you agree, that "every human remain(s) / bodies," should be dug up, at Arlington National Cemetery and moved; to a new cemetery?

You may be asking "WHAT IN THE HELL IS THIS IDIOT TALKING ABOUT!"

Well, if you don't know your HISTORY (REF. Civil War,) swallow your drink/food before reading any further. I don't want to be accused of making you choke! Arlington National Cemetery, is the second name of that piece of property, that originally was owned by none other then {WAIT FOR IT} Robert E. Lee, yes that would be Confederate General, Robert E.Lee's, home 1,100-acre estate, formerly known just simply as Arlington house. Mary Custis Lee, wife of Robert E. Lee, she had inherited from her father, George Washington Parke Custis, upon his death in 1857. Custis, the grandson of Martha Washington, had been adopted by George Washington when Custis' father died in 1781. What the history revisionist, at the Smithsonian, won't tell you, is "WHY" the first to be buried at Arlington were in fact buried in Mary Custis Lee's rose garden. This was a very plain & simple F-U / poke in the eye to Robert E. Lee. At this time in the world of 1860's, EVERYBODY KNEW what this simple act meant!

Why the unmistakable F-U / poke in the eye?

I'll take American Generals for a $1,000.00 Alex {Alex Trebek, game show host for Jeopardy}

Who was the First General that Abraham Lincoln asked to lead the Union Army, right after the states voted to secede from the Union. ANSWER: Who is Robert E. Lee Hence the burying of the soldiers in Mary Custis Lee's rose garden.

Just so you know {some} of the real full story of Arlington.

Cliff Notes version:

Robert E. Lee & Mary Custis Lee's home 1,100-acre estate seized by the North. In December, 1882, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5-4 in Lee's favor in United States v. Lee 455 U.S. 252 (1882,) / United States v. Lee, 106 U.S. 196 (1882,) deciding that Arlington had been confiscated without due process Read more:

As far as I can tell they keep it on a trailer and drive it to whatever city they decide needs a little bit of satan. Notice the straps and the trailer.
