Manafort is being punished for his association with Trump, as a warning to others who may someday support a swamp fighter.
Had he not volunteered to work for Trump he would be a free man today, unknown to most of us here.

It’d be silly to pardon Manafort now. He hasn’t been sentenced and has another trial coming. It does suck knowing that if he hadn’t joined Team Trump he’d be in the clear today and thats in large part a message the DSers want to send...don’t hitch your car to the Trump Train or you will pay a price.
