Because CA has so many quakes, the ground is rather cracked and broken, so it doesn’t propagate seismic waves so well. Small quakes feel relatively larger where the ground is more intact. A mid-3s quake is felt over much more of the East Coast than a 4 is felt in LA. CO is relatively unscathed by quakes, so the same effect may apply here, too. (But, I slept through this one.)
Unlike LA, we experience very few noteable quakes. When it happens here, it’s big news. Lol
