Get Woke Go Broke
I live in an apartment. I can take about $150 in groceries upstairs in one trip. Can’t do that with paper.
I’m no Tree-Hggin’ Hippie (though I DO love trees and have planted hundreds of them in my lifetime so far) but I ain’t gettin’ any younger and I’ve found a sturdy box with handles, or some sort of Costco carrier bag (look up ‘Snap Basket’) works great for me.
I shop for groceries every few weeks and I have SEVEN landings between the house and where I park my SUV. (See? I drive an SUV - NOT a Hippie, LOL!) so lugging stuff up to the house is a PITA and will continue to be until they carry me out, feet first. ;)
I’m seriously considering starting to order basics on-line for delivery. Wonder how the Enviro-Weenies will chastise me for THAT?

My standard answer to ‘paper or plastic?’
Not to mention, the manufacturing process for paper bags is nastier and more polluting to the environment than making plastic bags.
Dude, just reuse a 45 gallon Hefty plastic bag every time! That’d be funny!
Grocery prices are rising in order to make that possible.
