I know, but I remember reading that the Governor went to meet with John and Cindy. Arizona governor huddles with John and Cindy McCain This was back in May. May 30, to be precise.

McCain certainly WAS the alpha dog in AZ, so it's no surprise he'd pay a courtesy call, especially since it was unclear how close the end could be. He may have even asked McCain's preferences for a successor, but that doesn't mean he'll fill them. Ducey is now the big dog, and likely to be re-elected. He won't make a stupid mistake by appointing a McCain.

Imagine if your boss dictated a decision you should me making and then the boss is ash-canned. Would you cede the decision ? No way.

more on Ducey / McCain. As I remember, end of May was the deadline for Mac to step down and allow Ducey to place a special election on the ballot. ....another reason to visit at that time.
